Atlanta GA

I'll spend spring time in Atlanta and need to decide if to ship the AM as well
I never been there and don't have a clue what's its like

I know tail of the dragon is only 3 hours drive which is good enough reason but would like to have your thought about it

Thx

Bring the car. There's great driving a lot closer than the Tail. There are great mountain twisties near Dahlonega and Helen, Ga, which is maybe an hour and a half away. You can search Jalopnik for "Helen" and you'll find a post about the greatest roads in the US that most don't know of, or something like that. The post has an example route. There's also a group of us organized by Ed over at ATL AM/Lamborghini who go up there maybe every couple of months. You're welcome to join us.

I haven't been around the Atlanta area but I do know the Tail of the Dragon is amazing. It's well worth the drive and the Blue Ridge parkway has some very picturesque places. I took my Aston there with my wife when we stayed at the Biltmore. It was a great relaxing weekend

Agreed. Blue Ridge is beautiful, especially in late fall, but don't expect to drive fast there, at least not for very long. Biltmore does make for a good weekend and Asheville is a nice little town.

What questions do you have about Atlanta? Very healthy car scene. Lots of great roads in North GA. In an Aston, you'd probably like the Cherohala Skyway (which is my favorite road) better than the Dragon. Long sweeping curves and great views, not nearly as intense as the Dragon. I just moved from Atlanta for the last 6 years back to East Tennessee (much closer to the Dragon), and I am in the market for a V8 Vantage come Spring time. Feel free to post up any think you want to know about the area.

All the above, plus see if you can get some track time at Road Atlanta. It's a wonderful track.

I'm so jealous! I wish I could get some time on Road Atlanta. It's an awesome track in Forza, which is the extent of my experience lol.

jroback is infamous around these parts
At the risk of sounding like a total newbie, what do you have to do to get track time at Road Atlanta?

From their website, these are some of the groups that could be available to you.

In addition to these, you could also do NASA HPDE, here is the southeast regions schedule;
http://www.nasa-se.com/schedule.php

I am not local so won't comment on how any of the groups listed run their events at road Atlanta. I will say that I currently do time trials with NASA, and have run with Porsche Club. Both are very good outfits, where you will find good instruction. I'd imagine the BMWCCA day would be the same. I'm a BMWCCA member but have not run with them yet. I've also heard good things about Chin Motorsports

If you need more specific info, maybe we should start a new thread. Or you can pm me, I do know some locals who run there regularly

Various companies (e.g., MVP, Chin) rent out the track for a day or two and you pay them to join either one or two days. Price is usually a couple hundred or so for a day and three to four hundred for two. They put you in different run groups (novice, intermediate, advanced) based upon your track experience. You run in 20 minute stints every hour or so with the cars taking off spaced apart by say 15-20 seconds. They typically have instructors who will ride with you and give you pointers for free.

I highly encourage anyone that's never been on track to participate in an HPDE. You'll have a blast, and you'll learn a ton about yourself and your car. Worth every penny.
