DIY Servicing

Does anyone on here service their astons themselves?

Some do, and there are some old threads here on oil changes, brakes, and such.

How's your car running? Did you get the P0300 go away?

I've found the threads on diy oil changes but have not seen any threads about other services. I've read that the brake fluid should be flushed every year.

My p0300 has went away. I erased the code with my odb reader put in two cans of sea foam injector cleaner and went for a nice long drive today. After 3hrs of driving the code has not come back up. I'm so glad it wasn't the plugs and coil.

I just got my DB9 last summer and It is my first exotic car. I feel like there is so much i need to learn about caring for it. If you have any tips for me YVR it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I do my own service. Haven't had to do much yet. Have done oil change, installed H&R springs and custom wheels, 2 piece brake rotors and new pads and bleed brakes. Any particular items you are looking for?

DIY Service

I do all my own service (06' DB9). Partially because I am hundreds of miles from a dealer, but more for the fact I enjoy working on my cars. I just did an air filter and oil filter change. It was straight forward and took about an hour. There are plenty of post on here and online manuals availible to owners.

I have done all the service to date my self (2009 Vantage), oil and filter, air filters, pollen filters, brake flush, transaxle fluid change and installation of portafield brake pads. And one repair, replace trunk switch/button.

I've had my service done by dealerships so far, but starting this month (or next if I don't have time), I'll be doing everything myself.

Any tips/instructions on how to do a brake flush and transaxle fluid change on the DB9? I know the brake flush should be done annually but what should the service cycle be for the transaxle fluid.

what brake fluid is the most popular for the astons (vantage)?

to flush it. i would firs syphon the fluid out of the brake reservior and then refil it with new fluid. then do the pressure bleed system and open the valves on the caliper and wait. then, the traditional bleed method for a few brake pedal pumps and open and close the bleed valves and that should do it.

dont forget, those hood shocks, hatch shocks and DOOR shocks. they will go out if the car is over 7 years old.

probably going to tackle the transmssion oil soon too.

I need to change my front brake pads soon. How are the Portafield pads vs EBC vs OEM?

I have used EBC Red before and they seem pretty good for our slow town driving in Singapore. Speed limit is 55MPH on the highways here.

I used the yellow EBC for my rears and get a bit of squealing if the brakes are not fully warmed up. The EBC red i believe are softer have you been getting any squealing with them. I have to do my front brakes this year also. I have a feeling stock might be best to avoid brake noise. Although i have read that shims and special brake lube can help with the noise. Maybe some of the Aston techs on here might have some tricks of the trade they could share with us

I'd be interested in what ODB works well with DB9's and is there a MY break for proper ODB application? Mine is a 07. Thanks!

I am running EBC Reds on my BMW and Maserati right now without any squeal the mechanic put some ceramic grease on the back of the pad during the installation. Maybe that helped.
