I have a GHOST in my AC

Symptoms are:
Intermittently AC stops completely no air at all
I noticed if AC is turn on at MAX or if out side temp is >90 it malfunctions more often.
It has mind of its on comes on and turns off by itself. Goes out for few seconds or few minutes to half hour.

I took car to AM of Orlando today, Dealer technician tried really hard,

he ruled own blower motor, compressor, he swapped AC control module form another car and put my cars AC control Module in another car and my cars AC did not work while other car worked.

He said last thing to try is there is a module behind the central console (the console which has AC, Fan controls and clock) and see if that's defective.

AM website was not working so could not giver me part number.
When I drove back from the dealer- AC continued to malfunction but once it started raining and out side temp dropped it continuously worked at MAX speed fro almost 1 hours (I was freezing)

Any one has any idea what's wrong here? Do I need Exorcism specialist.

I wonder if there is some kind of temperature sensor inside the car cabin which is malfunctioning and shutting off AC?

I don't think it's your interior temp sensor. That sensor only works with auto mode to regulate the interior car temp. I would almost venture to say, the exterior temp sensor maybe faulty. I have seen this sensor cause all kinds of weird faults. Including not allowing the convertible top not to work.

Any way to figure that out?

I'll second that. I had very similar problems in my previous V8V due to a faulty exterior temp sensor.

Just to clarify
When I say AC was working at max speed I had put it on lowest temperature, in oath Edwards it worked well when outside temp came down.

Really the best way is just to replace it. The part I believe is only $40. Should only take 30 mins or so to replace.

This is what Irish07 said. (So that it can help others, I am C and P it here.

Hey bud,

So when it cools down and also when it rains(which lowers down the humidity during that time frame)..the A/C works perfectly, but when thebtemps rise and I'm guessing when it's really humid, the A/C cuts out and/or just stops completely till the temps cool and humidity lowers..

If I'm understanding this right, and ur living in Orlando...I would say it's 1 of 2 possible things that need to be checked.

The A/C refrigerant need to be checked and compare to the humidity(Humidity is the key factor that needs to be compared with). A low filled system in high humidity will show the same pressures as a normal filled system with no too little humidity. So does the system hold the correct weight or is it over/under filled?

2nd is the compressor, with the manifold tester gauges hooked up, are the pressures in range to the relative humidity level that day..if all the above are ok then I would check the compressor clutch air gap, at that point the tech will most likely see too much of a air gap and a new compressor clutch would be required..

It can possibly be a ambient exterior temp sensor, it is a common, but you would notice the temp displayed of the exterior be way off, the ambient temp sensor displayed inside should be no more than +/-5C in front of the grill. It's always a good insurance and cheap fix to replace them every few years, but the diagnostics need to be done correctly or else your just part changing in hopes to find the cure..

Hope this helps..

Now to Irish07's point

When it's hot AC goes on and off even every few minutes, I don't think humidity will change that quickly. But I will take all these replies to dealer technician, SE if he can figure it out.

Thanks.

There is a pressure switch on the a/c line, when the pressure drops below a spec, the compressor will shut off and stop the cooling, the HVAC module will see this and shut off the fans inside the car if the panel is set to auto..

I can't comment on the tech to work on the car, but if an A/C is in suspect, the pressures will tell you everything..do you know if the tech checked the pressures with engine cold and when hot?..would assume this would be detailed on the work order bill..

You would think that would be the first thing to check. I just assumed they did.

I hope they did that.
I have an email out to tech to describe what he did check

Temp sensor is ordered, not in stock, so will take 4-5 days.
Took current sensor out, will see if that solves the problem while I use AC in manual mode only.

No error or light popped up after disconnecting sensor

You won't get an error light for taking it out. Taking it out might not help with anything. Might make things worse. Try and let us know. Any word on if they had checked the charge of the system.
