Mileage ?
That's the point I was getting at. You're still facing a nasty depreciation hit regardless, so enjoy the car and take a few extra grand out of it.
It's basically my point as well. I'm not advocating for high or low mileage ownership. As long as the individual is okay with the depreciation hit that is involved, that's fine. Some may shrug off KF's $5k, while others may think that's too much to lose for the additional miles. Others may be fine with losing an additional $20k for the additional miles on a more expensive car. It all depends upon what the individual is comfortable with. At the end of the day it's your car, do what you want with it!
You definitely are right about the dealer trade-in values... One of the things keeping me out of a V12V is that I know I won't get as much as I'd want for my V8V. Especially since the local dealership knows how much I track my car!
Yeah, I went through that process on my V12V. Even though it had under 10,000 miles, there were plenty of examples out there that had far fewer miles and most dealers really low-balled me. They know Astons depreciate a lot and use whatever they can to beat you up on the trade-in value.
Also, to keep in mind, not only is the mileage delta important, but when you put it on is equally important. By this I mean that if you buy a 40k mile car and then add 20k miles, depreciation is X, but if you buy a 5k mile car and then add 20k miles, the depreciation will be 2X.
Basically, the lower the miles on a car when you buy it, the greater the depreciation will be for any given number of additional miles. This is what makes people reluctant to add miles to a garage queen. If you want to drive it a lot, start with a car with a lot of miles. Maybe a rule of double ----> you wanna' drive it 20k, then buy with 20k.
Any way, you get the point.

Nope. Don't get bored driving it every day. You actually just get spoiled, meaning that you can't drive anything else and be happy.
Have put 25k miles on my 07 because it became my favorite drive so quickly. It just has a way of working it's way into your life. And I live in a place where nobody even knows what it is. I just like looking at it
What amazes me, is that a 25k car is not as taken care of as my 80k Merc. How do people wear out edges of rims like they do, chunks out of the front end, really dirty and worn out bolsters etc....... Also finding a ton without any papers or any known history. Just surprised. Dealers just don't care either, they will sell to someone else if you don't buy it.
Next week I'll be turning 40,000 miles on my 09 Vantage I bought 13 months ago with 32,000 miles on it.... probably paid $15K less than typical because of that many miles. I think not driving the car would worry me more than the $10K or so hit I'll take if I sell it in a few years, The car is just as tight and fresh as a '12 Vantage I drove with less than 2,000 miles on it recently.
Bought my Lotus Elise used with "higher miles" at the time.
Bought my V8V the same way… In both cases my cars ran very well over time and produced very few or no mechanical issues. Really, I think these cars work better more broken in and driven more frequently than not. They need to be exercised if you expect them to perform.

Well put. I don't understand posts around gas mileage or resale value. Life is too short. If you are so concerned with the value of your car 2, 5, 10 years from now-perhaps you should not be buying a car like this. I try to drive it as much as I can as I enjoy it. I could never imagine worrying about going for a drive as it might further devalue the car. Enjoy it!!

That said, I would assume each of us has a annual mileage number where you would pass on purchasing a car and move on to the next one with lower miles..
Which btw was my original question but as usual these threads get sidetracked ...

I must say that I like buying a low mileage exotic car. My 07 V 8 had 2900 miles on it when I bought it in early August I now have 4200 miles on it. I purchased from an A.M. dealer and it has a one-year manufacturer warranty. It was also purchased new from this dealer and serviced there so I was able to look at all the records and know that it been taken care of. I love driving the car it's one of four that I own but I won't hesitate to drive and put miles on it because I intend to own it for quite some time. Purchasing this car was a dream come true. I keep all my cars spotless serviced and perfect as I can while still driving and enjoying them.
It's already been said but I'll repeat it again life is too short if you're always worried about the next person down the line who will buy your car then you're in The car flipping business. Just my $0.02.
