I'd do the same thing with a V12V. As soon as I got it, I'd look at it and think, "Well crap, now I have to start modding all over again."

It really is! I had a Subaru STi that I built - the thing was a beast! I ended up selling it and getting a 4Runner instead because I was going to keep dumping money into the STi. A couple months later I looked at my 4Runner and thought to myself, "You know.... I could lift this thing."

simply that the v12 has a rev limit of 6900 rpm I believe and the v8 of 7300. They fixed the top end with the v12s, which revs north of 7k...

The maximum engine speed of both the V12 Vantage and the V12 Vantage S is 7,000 RPM. For the V8/S/GT/N430, the maximum engine speed is 7,300 RPM.

car and driver reported the v12 vantage's redline at 6800 and the v12 vantage s at 7k. you may be right though. without a displacement increase, however, usually the path to more power is higher revs; ie sls black series.

According to AM's website, max HP from the V12S is at 6750 rpm. (Note that max power and redline aren't always the same)

Based on my dynos as well as others I've seen, the V8's power is still climbing at 7300 rpm redline.

And now we're back to modifying! I need a silly high redline. I'd love to touch 8k

My information comes straight from the specifications section of Aston Martin V12 Vantage and V12 Vantage S owner's manuals, not from some magazine. Both cars have the same redline.

I hear ya. It's why I love my RS5. It has a smaller engine, 4.2L v8 N/A and redlines at 8500RPM. When you get the revs above 5000 the RS5 really wants to takeoff. Both are fun cars with similar engines, but very different to drive.

Even more interesting is that the owner's manuals for the 2010 and 2012 V12V show different figures even though the spec didn't change. This could explain why Car & Driver quoted the figures you mention.

V12V 2010MY:

V12V 2012MY:

V12VS 2014MY:
