Wheel centre caps

So the wheel center caps have small areas of corrosion/ pitting in the finish around the edge . I know I can just buy new ones but I really prefer restoring stuff than just replacing it . It looks like the finish is some sort of chrome onto plastic , is that correct . Has anyone had any luck or tips on refinishing the factory Vantage wheel center caps .

the cap is actually very thin metal (alum or still) and VERY easily dented because it appears it's hollow behind the metal part., which I did to one knocking the originals when I put in the anthracite center caps. So be careful with whatever you do.

You can buy duplicolor spray paint and re-clear them. I had black wheels so I made them black.
