I love that rendering
If Marek Reichman sees that I'm sure it will be the next limited edition

Yes! This is what I'm talking about . . . things like the DB3 or the DBR1 were just simply stunning and beautiful cars. Period. Yes, they were hardcore race cars but they were still cars and they were actually raced in anger with conviction and passion. And almost 60 (60!) years later, they drop jaws in the same way they did when they premiered.

Things like the Vantage GT3 and, I fear, the Vulcan are just marketing exercises. There's no authenticity to them at all . . . they're just hollow, vacant gestures slapped together from the parts bin and meant to grab attention and make a quick buck but with no real development, depth or substance. And I guarantee you that many of the folks buying these cars reflect that attitude. They're buying them not because they love Aston (or even cars, in general) but because the vehicle is merely an investment (or a place to hide/park money) that might generate a return. Or worse, the car merely represents a trinket to be displayed and shown off.

These cars will likely never be raced seriously (though I hope they will be) nor can they be driven on the road in any practical (or legal) sense. So what is the point? Well, there isn't a point. And that's the problem with Aston today.

PS And I really, really, really hope I'm wrong with the Vulcan.

Clearly is a marketing component here, but I wouldn't say that there's no development. The GT3 appears to be a GT3 racing car that has been modified to drive on the road. I'm sure it's aero components, like the rear wing of which you're such a big fan, has been developed using wind tunnels, computer modeling, etc. They can't (or don't think they would) just slap a wing on a car without knowing how it affects the way the car handles as it would be potentially dangerous if they did. They need to balance the car so it will stay on the road when you take a turn at over 100 mph.

You're right that most buyers will simply park and show these cars, which is a shame. Like I said, I wish they would produce more of these cars so normal folks like me could get one. I would love to be able to take this car to the track!

So few performance cars are driven anywhere near the limit, and that goes for EVERY road car. They are all marketing exercises, but as a percentage, these cars might fair better than the average Aston.

It would be great to see these used in anger.

That said, like must exotics, they will be used to get coffee.

My bad. Thought I was replying to the GT3 thread.
Yes, the track car "Vulcan" will be something. I'm hoping most of them get used too. There is a full carbon Pagani near me that spends its whole life in a showroom. It is not street legal and does not meet the DB requirements of nearly every track in the world.

So it is now art.

You referring to the Zonda R that seems to make it's way around? I've never seen it in person but pretty much any Pagani is art to me. The attention to detail is 2nd to none. I'd be ok with it in my family room

Exactly. If I had the money, I'd buy the Pagani to keep in my own personal showroom and just drive a Miata or Exige on the track. A Pagani or Koenigsegg is too much art to ruin with track debris. I wouldn't be bothered one bit if people on the Internet were disappointed it wasn't used on the track.

On track only if I owned the track and nobody ever drove on it but me. I saw a Huayra up close. Unbelievable work of art. Even more special that a Zonda. I'd have two. One in the house and one on the drive.

Meanwhile, on topic:
What IS the Vulcan? Please someone tell me that it's the show car preview of what will become the next gen Vantage.

Dear Aston Martin,
You don't need to produce track cars. You need to produce the most desirable gentleman's sports car in the world. Please hurry up and do this before the angels just give up and stop filling the bank account.
You are welcome. Your adoring fan,
IbisRider

"Few new details have emerged about the Vulcan. With that said, the total production run for the hypercar is expected to be less than 30 vehicles.

Car Magazine reported last week, that the Vulcan is believed to be destined to supplant the One-77 hypercar as Aston Martin's new "halo" vehicle — a car that's designed to attract attention, and a lot of it. The publication projects that the new car will carry an asking price north of the $1.7 million Aston charged for the One-77.

Taking over as the new halo car means that the Vulcan will likely best the One-77's 750 horsepower and 220 mph top speed, as well."

It is ironic they have choosen to unveil two track biased cars at Geneva and no road going production variants
