Leather steering wheel vs alacantra

I noticed some of the astons have alacantra wheels......anyone have this can comment if they like it better than the traditional leather?

Mine came with leather and I do wish it were Alcantara - I do like the feel of it on the steering wheel.

I tried both before ordering my Aston. while the alacantara does feel nice. I have seen older cars where it gets matted with the oils from your hands.

Given the amount of skin contact, I choose the lower maintenance leather as it is very easy to wipe down and keep clean.

I did however choose alacantara for the seat surfaces as it holds your butt better in corners

Just my opinion, choose what you like.

"Cheap" meaning the part, labor or special order on a new car? It's all relevant to how someone perceives cost.

Yes, you can get it changed to Alcantara, but it isn't too cheap.

As mentioned, it does show wear more over time than leather.

It feels great but as stated requires careful use - probably not the best choice if you are prone to sweaty hands!

Nice set of Driving Gloves is cheaper, and you would have enough left to invest in Shoe's as well!

I recently sent my wheel out to be recovered in a combination of both alcantara and leather. I chose to have leather on the top of the wheel because I tend to most often have my hand in that position during casual driving but did the alcantara in the "3 and 9" position for a better grip during more spirited driving. I thought this would address the wear concerns of alcantara and offers the best of both materials. The cost to do this was around $500 and the leather and stitching matches my interior perfectly. The wheel is super easy to remove and reinstall FYI.

Alcantara shows its age more. Had it on my m3s and personally I prefer the feel of leather. Alcantara headliner is a nice addition though.

Thanks! DCT Motorsports did the work and I couldn't be happier with the way it turned out.

My V8VS came with a full alcantara steering, but i wish it were leather! Yes it does look and feel nicer, but the inevitable wear is scary just to think of!

speedracer800, your steering is perfect!
