FYI: I found some really inexpensive ($140) carbon fiber mirrors and they look great!

I had been considering getting CF mirrors for my 07 V8V for a while, but I couldn't really find a part I thought I'd be happy with. As far as I know, many of the cheaper ones (i.e., this part http://www.vivaperformance.com/carbon-fiber-mirror-caps-s60-v70-s80/) are literally just "caps" that either fit over the existing mirror or don't have the fittings inside the mirror to replace the OE mirror without affixing it with tape or adhesive. I think the RSC and VCollection pieces are wrapped OE shells, but at nearly $800 for a pair it was a bit steep to see if I liked it.

Somehow I stumbled upon this site: http://www.partsforvolvosonline.com/product_info.php?products_id=8549

When I bought the pair it was only £69.99 (now shows £79.99), but even after shipping I was able to get the pair of covers for less than $140! Know what's great about them? They're wrapped OE shells so they should be a complete replacement. I'm also completely shocked at the quality of the weave and clear coat considering this was only $140 for the pair. I absolutely can't tell it apart from the other OE carbon parts I have on the car already.

So, I just wanted to share that if you're in the market for some CF mirror covers (for a pre-2010 car) check out the link to partsforvolvos. I couldn't *NOT* buy this for $140..... so I took a gamble and I'm really glad I did!

Here are some pictures of them. I haven't had a chance to try and mount them, so I will update this thread when I can verify the fitment.

Here are the pics!

EDIT: The PFS site has removed the product since it is now sold out. Apparently they didn't have many in stock at all, and a user at PH bought the last set they had. It's a shame that you can't even see the page, so here's a google cached version of the page just so you can see what the order page looked like: http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:Cbte_IB8FkAJ:www.partsforvolvosonli ne.com/product_info.php%3Fproducts_id%3D8549+&cd=1&hl=en& ct=clnk&gl=us

Nice find. They do look good!

Apparently they've pulled the product now that it's sold out? Why pull the product off the site and not just say "sold out"?

Here's what someone in my thread over at PH said:

"Just got an email back from the Volvo parts supplier and it looks like I have got the last set available.
I actually tried to order two sets and the supplier refunded part of my order and they state

"I am very sorry but we only have 1 pair of these carbon covers left at present.
we only took a few sets from the supplier to test the water and they have a leadtime of several months"

If others are interested might be worthwhile sending them an email to drum up interest"

Looks nice! I wonder if they will get more in stock?

If they work than that's awesome!

It does seem like their mirror covers are not actually factory though, my guess is they may be a copy. I say that only because they do not have many of the volvo markings ect as our Stock units have. I have attached a picture below of the Mirrors we have in stock. They also say they attach with double sided tape which the factory units just snap in for easy install and removal. We do have these molded or as wrapped units depending on your preference.

Just some things to consider.

I think you looked at the wrong link. The first link I posted was the covers that require tape (which I didn't buy). The second link link (the ones I bought - the link is now dead) are CF wrapped replacement mirror covers. You're right in that there isn't volvo marking on the back of the mirrors I got, so it's not a VOLVO OEM part, it's a replacement aftermarket part... but I don't expect this to cause any issues. I expect the mounting to be the same as yours would - no tape is required for the piece I purchased and it should replace the original aston / volvo cover.

Sorry for the delay! I'll be getting pictures of it this weekend. They fit just fine! It was harrowing taking the first mirror off, and took me around 10 minutes to get it off and put the next one on, but once I knew how the other side took all of 40 seconds. I'd say it's 90-95% the quality of an OEM part. There are a few very tiny imperfections in the weave, but from more than 1 foot away you couldn't tell. It helps that they're smaller pieces. Honestly I was really surprised by the quality for the price.

The only thing extra I did was spray paint the 'lip' of the mirror black. It was the unpainted gray plastic and since part of the lip is visible once installed I wanted it to blend with the CF and the plastic surround of the mirror. Took all of 10 minutes to tape them up and give it a coat of black.

Nice! Hopefully they will have more in stock soon! Just to confirm these are not Volvo units but an aftermarket unit that clips in without double sided tape.

Correct. They have the appropriate clips. They are basically an aftermarket replacement mirror shell for a volvo car that's been skinned in CF.

Here are the pics finally!

Got it! I'm gonna get a used set on eBay and send it to my carbon fiber guy. :)

Anyone know which Volvo model to reference or have a Volvo part number?

Sweet! I have to stay off all these car forums. I keep finding new ways to spend $$$$. Those mirrors look great on your car and what a great find.

bluebarchetta Feb 2, 2016 06:46 AM

Fwiw, the mirrors described by Midwest are back in stock, and online. I ordered a set Monday. Also exchanged some email with the online parts store. Apparently they got 3 orders in addition to mine in the last few days :). I thank Gene G for bumping the thread, which reminded me I wanted to try these out.

Price shipped to me was less than $135.
