HELP !!! rattle upon starting for first 1-2 seconds

I think I over revved my Vantage V8. I took it to my regular mechanic.. He is a good mechanic but he said I have to start with research to find out what is happening. The engine has a knock for about a second until the oil gets in (my guess and theirs). This happened the day after I accidentally hit 7700-7800 rpm for a second or so. It lonely happens when the engine is cold, and the oil has had a chance to settle.

Any advice or ideas? Thank you all for your help.

About the oil: Are you sure you've got the correct amount in it? There's a specific process for checking the oil level (it's in your owners manual)

About over-revving: The engine will shut off to prevent catastrophic failure from over-revving. If you start it up too soon after it shuts itself off, it'll be in a limp mode. I've done this twice myself lol.

re: rattle when starting up

Thanks for the information. I checked the oil as described. I was only doing 7800 rpm for probably a second. I shifted as soon as it did.. almost. The car seemed to run fine that day. The next morning and every cold start since it has the rattle? In doing a search I some mention of an oil pressure relief valve?

There are no check engine lights either. I had it Eurotuned about a year ago and only run 93 gas.

The oil pressure relief valve (or PRV ) will back off if there is too much pressure. There was a old bulletin about them causing noise.. But this was the same noise you would hear after just changing the oil.. Like a howling hone that goes away when pressure is built up.. Just it wouldn't go away and occurred all the time near idle rpm. Believe the old ones were metal and the fix was to replace it with a plastic one to stop the resonance noise from travelling...Nor sure this will be your fix

The rattle noise, is it like a valve train tapping noise?

re: noise upon starting

The mechanic thinks it could be. I don't know. it is so brief. I don't think it has any problem after starting. Does that rule out big problems? I don't know how they are going to diagnose this.

It does rule out the PRV..

To diagnose, they will most probably remove the valve cover with the engine running to pinpoint the noise..I've had to do it a few times.
