Brake pads.... least dust?
Brake pads.... least dust?
I dont know about you folks, but i cant stand cleaning the wheels everytime i go out for a 10mile drive! whats up with that? i expect that with the race car as i grind down a set of pads in 3 weekends, but a street car with pads that will last 60k miles?
i pulled the pads out and found them to be Pagid 4-2-2. probalby a wanna be pagid blue racing pad . they dont make any noise, have decent bite but make a mess of the wheels , front and rear.
I bought some pads from someone on this list and they are called EBC. (they are orange in color) dont know what they are or what grade they are, other than the box said reduced dust. went to bed the pads today... man they squeel like pigs and ive see some squeaky brakes on the race car running all the top race compounds. (pagid black, porterfield, performance friciton , hawk, etc etc )
but after a few 100mph to 60 brake repeats , got them super hot and just started to feel overheat fade, and the noise went away after about 20mins of driving. cooled them down and then put the car away (cleaned the wheels yet agian... sheezz! )
are these pads racing type pads? i forgot who i bought them from but it seemed like a good idea at the time.
changed the fluid to new castrol and it shoud be good for a bunch years now. (only doing about one track event with the car a year and very little driving of the car in general

I will let you know how the Porterfields work out for me.
EBC Orangestuff pads are 'full race'

I've never used them, but I have their Yellowstuff pads on my 4Runner and love them. Tons of initial bite (have them paired with EBC USR slotted rotors).
The Porterfield R4S pads have extremely little dust and are super quiet, but don't have as much initial bite as I'd like. I'm getting used to them, though.

I have a set of Porterfield pads here that are supposed to be lower dust than OEM, I'll be installing them in the coming weeks. I had a set of the EBC low dust pads on a previous car and there was very little bite, basically nothing so they went into the trash. I then had a set of low dust Akebono pads on my Kleemann CLK and they litteraly dissetigrated after 3 laps on the track and I almost went into the wall. From my experience low dust & performance don't mix. That being said, I have low dust ceramic pads on my Hummer & they are brilliant and that thing gets abused hard over here on weekends.
I will let you know how the Porterfields work out for me.
