My new DBS!
Sounds amazing. Man I love these!!! Maybe I should consider over a 991S heck or even GT3 seems like a sweet comprise between lux, exotic, soul, rarity, and maint is not great but better than other exotics! Cheers good luck on dbs exhaust
I do x pipes and resonator deletes on all my cars so I agree it's best bang for buck on really any car especially big NA motors

speedracer800; I see your point now completely. This video really shed's light on your need to focus on sound after the true x pipe setup. I recently found the Larini exhaust systems which seems to be more focused on the high pitched V12 scream you mention.

additionally, here's the exhaust flow video using a Ford V6 that provides a better representation in differences between the X vs H pipe setup I was mentioning earlier:

The" Storm black" is really unique. I think it's beautiful although some may disagree. The first time I saw it I was blown away by the red(ish) metallic flake in the paint. It's impossible to really get the full effect of the color until it's out on a really sunny day. Before buying my DBS I tried looking for good images that really show the details of the color and couldn't really find any.
I took these over the weekend when I had some good sunshine really making the metallic pop. These give a very good indication of how "Storm black" looks in the sun.
As far as comparing them.. It's tough. Jet black is a timeless color of course but it's been very difficult to keep clean and swirl free.. It's black after all.
I'm sure the storm black will be equally as troublesome but because of the limited miles I put on these cars, I wanted to get the color I really love and not worry so much about maintenance. Although the previous owner had a paint sealer / protectant applied to the DBS and it really seems to be helping to keep the swirls to a minimum. I'm getting some clear film protection added to the hood and nose as well.. These are the most vulnerable areas.
The next thing I'm going to try is the Xpipe on the DBS with the original rear box. I'll definitely post a video.. Just may take a couple weeks before I get a chance to swap it over.

I'm very interested in learning how much can be done with the muffler design to "tune" in the sound to what I would consider to be "perfect". Again.. Very subjective.
I'm corresponding with Stewart and hoping we can come up with something else to try (beyond the muffler delete).
I'll definitely keep you guys posted..
To me, the DBS sounds perfect as is. Not quite the beast that is the Vanquish Mk1, but way more aggressive than a stock DB9. You should drive it around for a while before modding it, or at least make it easily reversible. One thing that I like about the stock rear box is the flap control; keeps the drone at bay during cruising.
I agree it sounds fantastic as delivered.. But once you've experienced that V12 with the secondary cats removed, it's tough to go back.
Definitely all the exhaust work is very easily reversible. If I didn't have the ability to do the work myself, I could never have messed with the exhaust to this extent if I had to take it to the dealer etc for the work to be done.

Perhaps we've beat this topic to death, but I made another video. This time a back to back sound clip comparison. I think this better demonstrates the difference in throttle response when the secondary cats are removed.
I'm pulling the Xpipe off the DB9 today and will hopefully have time to install on the DBS and give it a try with the stock DBS muffler. If there's any interest, I'll make a video of that configuration as well.

I threw the Xpipe on the DBS this afternoon and it's pretty much what I thought.. Too quiet. Really really quiet.
I'll be pulling the muffler off the DBS next and basically transferring the set up from the db9 directly over to the DBS. I'll put the db9 back to "stock".. That's how most buyers will prefer it most likely anyways.
I'll make a video of the DBS before I make this next change as well.

Great video and comparison. They both sound excellent, but if I had to choose one, your modified db9 takes the cake!
The DBS sounds muted in comparison and is missing something (but in fact has too much restriction).
I remember you mentioning that there was also a perceived difference in rev urgency and "butt Dyno" as well.
Excited to hear how the DBS sounds and feels after removal of the secondary cats!

It's one of those situations where the DBS definitely sounds fantastic.. When you are just listening to the DBS.
I'm excited to have this unique opportunity to be able to experiment with different combinations like this and compare to unmodified, side by side.
Although sound is very subjective, I think most people listening to this video I made this morning would overwhelming think the DB9 sounds better (probably the boys at Gaydon as well
I actually almost didn't "label" the sound bites to offer up a truly "blind" taste test. There's some amount of blasphemy that comes from trying to "improve" on the terrific noise Aston Martin has spent a ton of time and money working to perfect. I don't worry too much about that.. It's my car and I'll do whatever I like with it to make it unique and exactly what I prefer. I think there's something to be said for the fact that to a certain extent Gaydon has to work within limitations that we don't.. And if they could truly do exactly what they'd LIKE to do, I'll bet those secondary cats would be in the dumpster out back.
I took the Xpipe off the DB9 today and installed it on the DBS.. I've gotten pretty proficient at this now. As I said in an earlier post, no surprise it's very quiet. However, the throttle response is fabulous now (like the DB9 in the video). I'm hoping tomorrow to make another video of the DBS with the Xpipe and the "stock" rear box. I could also make one of the DB9 as it currently sits with the OE secondary cats back on and no muffler still. It sounds really wild like this! Very loud obviously but an entirely different tone. I'm not sure if I've ever seen a video of this configuration so maybe it's worth doing?

. Good comparison, it's easy to hear the difference which is sometimes hard in a video.
