I would like to remove the fender screens and paint them. We have the fender liners out and can see the fasteners holding the screens, but cannot figure out how to un-thread (much less re-thread) the nut at the back of the fender.
Do we access this nut from the wheel well or some how from the back of the fender?
Do the strakes need to be removed?
Can someone advise or point me in the right direction? I don't seem to find any info on this.
I purchased two from Aston Martin Bits so I'd have my orig's. Purchased hood/bonnet screens too. Painted them all red to match my calipers.
From what I remember I came in from the front fender. Only had to remove a few bolts from the liner so I could sneak my arm in. I think I did it the same day I replaced door struts. Furthest nut back was a knuckle scraper. Really tight. Didn't have to remove strakes but was nervous as hell I was going to drop a nut when I put the painted ones back on.
I've tried to take pics but side one's always show too dark as they're recessed.
On my Vantage the driver side screen was easy with the fender liner removed. Plenty of room to reach in with a wrench and remove the 2 nuts that hold oh the screen.
The passenger side was a different story. The ECU is located right behind that screen making it impossible to reach the nuts without dropping the ECU out of its bracket. There are a few nuts to remove to free the ECU. Not hard, just a little scary.
Here's a couple pics of mine. And yes it's not the exact shade/tone/whatever as the calipers. I painted the cross braces and center manifold plate on the engine too. Can see them in my sig pic to the left. Probably a $5000 bespoke option from the factory for the price of a can of spray paint. Actually the cross braces were done with plastidip so I could remove it if I didn't like it. So with the spare pieces from Aston Bits and Plastidip the whole thing is reversible.
Going to get the wheels redone in a darker shade so they hide the brake dust a bit and I don't have to wash them so often.
