V8V Oil usage

Ok the dealer told me they dont use oil

i fitted Redpants catch can 1.10.16 - emptied it today 1.1.17. 3 months - about 90mls in the can after approx 3500 miles (5000kms). see below

So i then checked the oil 9 start up 2000 revs for 20 seconds, check level - it took about 1 litre - 9000km (5600 miles) over 5 months. that includes about 500 fast highway driving mostly at 2500-3000 revs with frequent accelerations for passing up to 6000 revs)

is this typical? (previous audi RS4 V8 you expected to use about 1 litre every 1000-1500 km) I'm not worried about it but just interested

any other experiences welcome

Happy new year all

Graze

My V8 vantage does not use any oil, it's bog standard and periodically I drive it enthusiastically.
It has got about 31000km on clock, I have never abused it and have let it warm up before running it high in the rev range.
I have at least 8 times or so run it into the governor by accident when giving it stick.

That's interesting Greg.

Thanks for your reply. I'll keep a close eye on it. Fair to say car did about 3000km a year before I bought it and has done 9000km in 5 months since I have owned it

The RS4 used more oil after not being used for a while so it may have been in the first month or so

Cheers

Mine definitely consumes oil. Some through the intake system, which is why I developed the catch cans, but from elsewhere as well. I'd guess blow-by past the piston rings or something, which isn't uncommon.

My 2009 4.7 consume about 1 liter for 10,000km last summer, I consider that very normal for a high revving engine.
