A good reason to extend the warranty

I have a 2015 GT with a warranty up in October - planning on extending it another few years if I don't get a 2018 (assuming I know what they will be by then)...

... well... today I took the car into the dealer (Morries AM) because I thought I saw a nail in the tire. Turns out no nail, just a bit of non-evasive metal looking like a nail, but they said I have an oil leak in the engine and in the transaxle, and that they were trying to figure out the extent to tell me how much I'd expect to pay... then I mentioned the magic words... nada, it's still under warranty, not my problem! I'd expect this expense will end up being as much or more than the two year extension - why take a chance the enxt two years this won;t repeat itself?

The disturbing fact is that you have an oil leak in the engine and transaxle on a car that's less than 3 years old. If this was a Ford or Chervolet this would be unacceptable, warranty or no warranty

Remember how they are directed to "fix" the leaks on a car under warranty. Cover it with silicone. Of course it only works long enough to get you out of warranty, but then that's the whole point.

They would need to silicone it for extended warranty! Actually I'd be surprised Aston service would shortcut. As far as the leaks, it's my fault! I had a tooth implant - asked: What's the chance of something going wrong?, they said about 1 in 2000 go wrong... my titanium stud cracked! I recently had cataract surgery, - asked: What's the chance of something going wrong?, they said about 1 in 2000 go wrong... guess what? Went slightly wrong - luckily an emergency visit solved an initial eye pressure problem. So what's the chance of an Aston at 10,000 miles with a tranny leak and engine leak... my fault for sure.

It's a British car, the chances of a leak are 100% 8O

There are several threads that have explained exactly how they just cover the leak points with silicone for the express intention of getting you out of the warranty period so they can then charge you $4500 to remove everything from the front to fix a timing cover leak.

Oh boy, not good news for us 2015 / 2016 Vantage owners. I purchase 2 extra years of warranty when I bought my GT last August. That gives me 5 years of coverage. Let us know how it turns out. I also had a 2 year preowned warranty on my 2007 Vantage as well.

I'm a big fan of at least that first two year extension (the cheaper first 2 years)... I was told the timing cover is leaking (thought that was only a 4.3 problem) but they have no clue as to where the transaxle leak is so they said they will need to take it apart. I can't tell you how many times I've had things fixed where the repair person said 'hell, never seen that before'. Anyway, I had an 09 Vantage with 45,000 miles never a mechanical problem, an 07 which I drove very hard, and other than a timing belt change the first week I had it (bought new in 07) absolutely no problems in 25,000 miles! Perhaps one of the robots on the assembly line got distracted!

My 13 with 12k miles has a timing cover leak. How much does that cost again?

Is that an engine out repair? That's the only thing that has happened that would have been covered under the second of two years extended warranty.

Not an engine out repair but quite labor intensive. Cost approx $3K

Maybe I am looking at this wrong...but many of you buy a warranty on a car that let's the dealer charge you whatever each year for service...otherwise the warranty is not covered...drive few miles and do not have fun...it is a car...enjoy it.

I bet most of you have a washer and dryer that is used more than your car...I would bet no warranty on them.

With that stated...if you sleep better feeling spending 3800 for a two year warranty on a car you drive 200-300 miles a month...Buy it...

Nice weekend coming up...get some miles on our cars..haha just thoughts from an old guy that is having fun with his first Aston

Actually I do have a washer-dryer warranty (all appliances) with the utility company. I'll drive about 5,000 miles a year with maybe 5 or 6 driveable months (Minnesota). I rather pay the $2500 a year (the first two years are cheaper) than have a big suprise... after the 5 years when the annual cost goes up, then it's more of a bigger deal. Also other than my 20" wheels, I can't modify under warranty, so that's a limitation to consider.

Doesn't the warranty also require that there is documented regularservice by the dealer?

yes! that is the larger problem when the dealer gouges you at the annual! When I had the annual at Lake Forest, they at least went over options before doing the work - Morries did not do that and thus, I ended yo replacing wiper blades that were never used and less than 2 years old. And that is exactly the problem I was trying to convey. I certainly don't have a problem with rates and needed annual fluid changes or adjustments, probably from owning airplanes, you want that to be 110% mechanically sound if possible when your flying with passengers at night through storms. Which is why I no longer fly, because I'm only 60% sound as I age!
