If I could pump my own gas this would never happen!

My insurance will never even know. When the [other good attendant] said "well I'm sorry", I flat out told him sorry ain't cutting it, manager or owner, because this is going to be a claim you'll be paying for.
I just hate the idea of clear paint lines taped off, especially in the drip rail on the roof. It's just a dead giveaway there's been paint work done. As far as anybody knows it could have 1/4" of bondo on it when all that was fixed was this small cut in the paint.

There was a thread with pics on here of guys using this stuff . The pics looked really good , not perfect but definately better and less of a hassle than diminshed value claims , increased insurance rates etc etc . Why not try it and if your not happy with the results then go for the whole redo etc . All it will cost is the $$$ for the touch up .

They have a specialist for doing touch ups, and he can do a 2 part touch up with a fine hair brush in correct AM Mako, with correct clear over it. I've just been told by everybody there, if it was dark he could make it disappear, but because it's light, it won't disappear and "will be very noticeable", or, "look like ****", or, inert more of same. I talked to pretty much everybody I knew at FCK to get as informed as possible. So, unless Miller or DC etc has a real magician that can do the spot 2 stage and make it disappear, those are my options.
1 - Have the simple 2 stage done on the spot with correct AM Mako [that will be noticeable]
2 - Do the full routine and have it spotted and the full panel cleared, leaving lots of tape edges.
3 - Or, do nothing and just want to strangle a certain somebody everytime I notice it.

My son bought pinnacle scratch repair and worked good on his wife's car...also AUTOGLYM has a new heavy scratch compound...they are not the answer probably but I wanted to mention...
Maybe pm the guy that posts here on auto detailing he may have some thoughts...
I hope things get fixed to your satisfaction!

Thanks. Combining that with a trip to Limerock might work, otherwise unless you give a glowing recommendation on why he's THE MAN [especially for light color work], I'd rather stay somewhere in the 100ish mile range of Philly

A great painter doesn't necessarily make a great touch up artist [unless they're restoring antiques with extraordinary paintings]. But I've seen the work of some masters and they are phenomenal. I've done hundreds of touch ups, on guitars, and I'm very good at it but by no means a master. So I wouldn't want to be the guy I'd take my car to.
But there has got to be a real master doing automotive touch ups somewhere close-ish, there's probably 50 million people in a 150 mile radius, but how do you find that guy?

The estimate is from FCKAM, and thank you for chiming in on the diminished value.
What I'm searching for is the path to take. Do I really want to have the whole 1/4 cleared, and a tape line in the door, hatch, drip rail, etc, for such a tiny touch up? Or should I just have it spotted and live with the results? It is a driver, it's going to be a driver, I'd love to keep it perfect but it's impossible IMO and I don't want to be doing this with every little chip it collects, especially when the rest will be on my dime. This one just happens to **** me off, but it's not my dime to fix.

I scratched my carbon fiber spoiler not 100 yards out of the dealer after taking delivery. Guess what, it's still there. I've picked up chips since that too.
I can understand the nature of your annoyance since the chips in your paint are in a very obvious location, and every time you buy gas you'll see them.
In my opinion, you don't want to be "taping" any portion of your car.
For what it's worth, my car was hit while parked at a gas pump. The repair entailed removing the door, front quarter and front bumper, and hood. All this to properly blend in the front quarter that got cracked. In this way, there was/is no overspray whatsoever.
The moral of the story, paint as little as possible. If you can find someone that can repair minor chips, I would go that route.
What's more, since your car is a "driven" car, you can put in all that TLC and still get another chip. Take a deep breath and let it go.
Hope I'm helping here....

You only made it 100 yards?!?!
I know this thread is all over the place, but it's already gotten it's first 1/8" chip, the trailing tire edge of the passenger front wing, right on the edge and pretty low, and the color under is much lighter so I only found it when waxing. It's got a couple thin lines in the middle of the hood from rocks. And somewhere I talked about the driveway gravel sized rock that hit my windshield square in the spot I look forward, although I saw it from 15' out coming in from the right, doing 85 and how did that not star it! 5000 miles in the Philly metropolis, Jersey side, is a far cry from a beautiful ride in the country where you kill bugs, around here the bugs kill you And I expect to get peppered with everything coming off tires, out of the bed of pickups, trucks that aren't tarped, and of course the occasional muffler [I've had to dodge 2, I don't want this car to be the first time I smash one]. It's got a clear bra on the nose Newport Beach put on original so it has some protection, and I'm just not the "wrap it in bubblewrap" type.
Yes, in the scope of all the expected "**** happens", I'm a little overly bent about the carelessness and how it happened, and that I'd already decided never let that guy pump my gas, but blew an ankle. And the fact I can't not see the spot he jammed the cap in [damn sharp aluminium edge, have you ever looked at it?] and where it is. It's the only blem I have I don't have to look for. And there was actually "somebody" responsible for it, not like the untarped truck leaking pebbles, so since I have a responsible party [GRRRR] who's paying for it, I would very much like to have it disappear. And, that way, I've also found somebody that can make all those little "**** happens" disappear too
BTW there was only the line where the edge of the cap hit. The 2 little chips were actually something on the paint that looked like chips up close, but disappeared when it rained It's gorgeous clean and shiny, but it's still pretty dang hot when it's covered in brake dust and oak stringers. I'll try and wash it once a week but it'll go a month, which is why a light color was part of the search criteria. Unfortunately Mako is not as light as Stratus or Lightning and does show the dirt alot more than I thought it would ;/
