Trouble wth Porterfield Pads

So I just finished installing new Porterfield pads on the front brakes of my 2012 Vantage S. Was going to do rears next, but needed to run an errand before doing so. As soon as I get going, fronts begin to make an awful noise that increases/decreases with speed of vehicle. Not squealing. More like metal on metal rubbing. Very loud. Like you can hear it over the radio loud. I drive about a total of 30 miles, and by the time I'm home the noise is decidedly quieter, but still audible. Now only audible with windows down and head out window. Still sounding like a rubbing noise.

In installing them, I noticed the pads sit really close to the hats of the rotors, but I don't think they are touching. It's definitely close. Of course, I can only see the outer side of the rotor/pad. It could be coming from the side closer to the engine.

Thoughts? Advice? Anyone else have this issue? Thanks much, Andrew

I'm holding off on the rears until I get this sorted. I'm inclined to drive another 25-50 miles to see if whatever is rubbing wears away, but that a) might not work and b) might be a bad idea for whatever is going to wear away.

Did you check to see if you got something caught between the pad and the rotor?

Also, if you only changed the pads, did you turn the rotor or at the very least sand the rotors?

Also, did you put a new backing on the pad or put some disc quieter on them?

Also, is the rotor tight, meaning will it wiggle from side to side?
If it is loose, this would definitely cause the sounds you describe.

Did you bed the pads? Even if the pads say they don't need bedding I still like to do a minimal bedding procedure. If they aren't new rotors and the old pads weren't the same ones then a light sanding to remove the old pad material is good like mentioned. I haven't done pads on the Vantage so hopefully someone else will chime in.

Put the Porterfield dustless pads on my 14' Vantage when the mileage was 150 miles.
No issues at all.

Problem solved. It was complete garage mechanic error--meaning my fault. I installed the retaining springs backwards. See pictures. So...for those of you who do your own brakes and a get a grinding noise after the job, this might be your culprit.

Once I rotated them 180 degrees, i.e. with the worn side closer to the ground, no more rubbing.

Thanks for everyone's thoughtful input.
