My Aston is too loud/first world problems...
Hey guys,
I bought an 07' V8 Vantage a few months ago with the Quicksilver set up. I'm guessing it has aftermarket cats as well because between 2k-3k RPM's and 5k+ the car is so loud inside. It's really the 2-3k range that bothers me, because that's typically where I cruise. Has anyone had any success with dynomat, etc in the trunk area? Thanks in advance... |
I will swap with you. hilarious

If it's that loud, it's probably got cat delete pipes. Might want to consider some sport cats or (god forbid) the stock cats.. :/

The OEM exhaust has valves which quiet the exhaust below 4000 RPM. After 4000 RPM its remarkably loud. Replace the Quicksilver set-up with an exhaust with the original exhaust set-up (there must be some original used exhausts out there for cheap). There will not be a change in performance but your car will be livable. I had an 07 Vantage which I replaced the cats with 200 cell cats and with the original exhaust was only loud when I exceeded 4000 RPM... The I made the mistake of replacing that exhaust with a Miltek units that did not have the by-pass valves and that set up was tiresome with its droning at highway speeds. Now I have a 2013 Vantage S with the secondary cat delete X-Pipe combined with the original (OEM) exhaust and it's perfect.

That's true. I've been lazy and haven't thrown it up on my lift yet. I just assumed it had cats because it passed smog when I bought it and it doesn't have that funny exhaust smell during warm up. I like how it sounds outside, it's just that 2-3k drone.

My Vantage has the Quicksilver titanium exhaust and the sound is only in high revs loud. I assume there is a 200 cell cat or straight pipes in your car. Not sure if the sound could be so different with QS exhaust and 4.3 and 4.7l? I was planing on straight piping mine at some point. |
My car is a 2013 Vantage S. I have had the secondary cats replaced with Fabspeed's X pipe, Fabspeed did the work. While my car was there, I also had Fabspeed do a re-flash of my ECU (quicker throttle response, higher RPM small HP gain). My car now has (according to Fabspeed's dyno) 470 gross hp. On the track, I'm able to keep pace with DB9's done the straight. Its a great set-up and I love it. The sound is awesome too.

OP - can you send me some pictures of your setup and we can help identify. Also the QS should have something stamped on it - SS+, SS, SP so you can tell which version it is.
If we know what you have, should be able to advise where you can go from there to adjust it to where you'll be happy. |
My vantage has a fabspeed xpipe and Mansory sport exhaust. It is very loud but sounds wonderful. That said there is some things you can do to make your ride more comfortable. The vantage has very limited sound proofing in the rear. I ended up using some 3/8"dynamat below the rear carpets and the bulkhead behind the seats. Also make sure that there is space between the midpipe/muffler flange and the frame cross member if there is contact it sends the sound right into the cabin. Selfish, probably but it has really tuned my in-car experience to were I want it to be and the car is still less acoustically offensive than many other cars/trucks/ricers and certainly less than most bikes

Hi there! As Stuart mentioned we have 3 levels of silencing available on the V8's. Sport, SuperSport and SuperSport Plus.
Feel free to drop us a PM with your system part number and we'll let you know which system you've got, and we can advise a solution to suit your taste. Similarly do let us know about the cats too. If they're QS race cats they will each have a metal plaque with a part number. QuickSilver Exhausts |
