Vantage window issue
Hi all,
I usually use an indy to service my 2008 Vantage here in Melbourne, Australia
Cut a long story short, my left passenger side window started only going up and down in 20cm increments. I found an article explaining that this problem was caused by the window regulator and there was an integrated circuit called a "hall sensor" that fails in these and causes this very problem.
I got another regulator from ebay. Gave it to my indy mechanic who told me it had the same problem. Very strange. He blamed the door module and we sent it to the local stealership to be checked properly. The dealership ran their diagnostics and told us it was indeed the door module. I'd already bought another door module (matching part number and vintage) but they insisted I needed to buy two new modules and have them programmed. For this diagnosis, I was charged 2 hours labour.
That took 3 weeks. I kept asking to have another regulator put in (just to troubleshoot) as I didn't think it was the door module (knowing full well the exact chip that caused the problem). Eventually, they responded saying "well, it turns out its both the door module AND the regulator". I asked them to try the old door modules with the new regulator and they wouldn't do it.
I was stung with 3 hours "diagnostic" labour. 2 new door modules and fitting and 1 new regulator and fitting (another 3 hours labour)
I paid as otherwise I wouldn't get my car back. I then reinstalled the old door modules and the window works fine. So it was the regulator all along (the 2nd regulator was also faulty)
I'm going to take them to court to get all the excess labour charges and refund the door modules (have a friendly lawyer that will do this for no win no fee) but I need to get some corroborating evidence. Is there an actual section in the workshop manual that indicates what to do when windows act in this way? Or someone with Aston qualifications that can point me in the right direction?

you can go onto some Aston site, sign up for a day, and download the workshop manual for your year Vantage. I would do this, rather than get a free one due to your litigation efforts. You want to stay on the straight and narrow.

Sounds like a great idea, but I'd still like to know where exactly in the manual I need to look. I've had someone tell me there's a whole section in there dedicated to the window fault

I looked through the service manual I bought on a cd/pdf...I didn't see any troubleshooting or description of what you described. The only thing I was able to find was the window or regulator or module replacement etc.
