Convertible soft top installation at home
Convertible soft top installation at home
I installed new convertible soft top on my 2009 DB9 volante. Had to grind the head of pop rivet gun otherwise not a very difficult job. I learned few tricks along the way which could save time and improve results. If anyone is doing a job contact me and I will talk you through it. Now if I can upload the pictures of car from my iPhone then you can decide how it looks but I am very happy with the results.
No
Linen inside headliner will be extra
I think it’s close to 1500-2000 US dollars.
No other parts needed.
This is called canopy kit
My interior is beige
Original car color is like gold beige color
Current color is vinyl wrap (which also I did my self except 30% I hired a guy for corners )

Very nice. I've got a 2009 DB9 that needs a new top too. Worn and rear window seal along top is shot. Saving up for the project. Glad to hear it's doable at home. Will mark thsi thread and contact you when I get to it.
Old phart I had same exact problem
If rear window is the only problem you could contact aM Orlando
They claim that they have developed a secret method to fix the problem for good and even AM FACTORY is proude of them. They charge <2000 not sure I remember the amount. But my hood was quite beaten up so needed to replace.
If you don’t find parts at good price even a special trip to uk during off season might be worth it to bring the part from us . You can also take orders from others on the forum and be a good brother , helping save money to others while bringing your cost down.

Just so no one gets misled here...members cannot initiate group buys so you would have to do it by pm or off the forum...IB banned member initiated group buys after several of them went off the tracks with members losing money and not getting product....sorry
Agree it should be small group and with active members who have been here long term , by PM, and preferably from same country.
There are site including red pants , velocity , Aston Martin bits
Etc hopefully they can still provide parts at reasonable price.
Historically they were all bit more expensive than “my source” which lot of people have ordered in the past as well.
Also one has to go personally to get the parts to avoid GST (? 20-:0%) which can be refunded on the airport if you are bringing parts back with you in person.

VAT is 24% which you do have to file to get back, and you will have to pay a 5% importation fee on the value if you don't break the law and declare them in customs.
Most just ship them back to themselves declaring a much lower cost basis.

Real values are much cheaper anyway .
Now mine was shipped by Fedex dealer declared 2600£ as value, I never saw any custom charges and it has been 3-4 months. Fedex did ask me to fill out special custom form since it was my first import of > 2500$ .
Previously I had imported CRM FOR 509-600$ and had to pay custom duty so don’t know how it works?

UPS or FedEx will always get brokerage and customs duty from you, extremely rarely there is an oversight.
The loophole on brokerage and duty, and if the .gov ever closed it they'd rake in a lot more cash, anything that ships postal is "exempt", not by rule, just by happenstance. You'll never get charged on a postal shipment, and that includes when DHL handles the shipment as a postal partner to the originating country.
FedEx is used by USPS as their Global Express partner so there's always a possibility that's how it slipped thru, or possibly that rare instance of oversight.
