Does the noise change when you adjust which vents the heat/AC is being blown through? Or when you turn up/down/on/off the air? Or switch between heat and AC?

I thought exactly the same... So I played with the heater controller when it was making the noise bit it didn't do a thing.
it doesn't change with engine speed or if you press the clutch ether, however since the noise started the cars telling me that traction is off and the engine temp guage is going into the red and then dropping back down.

It's getting a new clutch and flywheel fit next week so they are going to take a look.

Such an odd sound though!

Mate, you were bang on!!
Checked the coolant level and the tanks wad very low so the noise was the pump running dry.
Filled it back up and hey presto, we're back in the game
