Wrinkles in convertible top
Heat gain from sun
I am trying to understand this statement. So if the car has been sitting in the sun, and the top is hot, lowering the top under these conditions is what causes the wrinkles?
The car spent it's first 10 years in LaQuinta, CA which is near Palm Springs. It definitely would have experienced some sun and heat extremes. It was supposed to have been stored in a climate controlled garage, but probably got it's fair share of sun exposure.
As far as using steam on the top, do I need to worry about damaging the weather proofing of the fabric?

If the top is down while parked in the sun and then stored closed in air conditioned space, the wrinkles tend to set reflecting the closed pattern.
Steam just the area with a good professional steamer to relax the fabric.
The Steam will strip water proofing, so it can need touch up, or wait to steam it before you re-apply water proofing for the whole roof.
Once you get it smooth, after driving with the top down, try closing the top while still out in the sun before parking the car in the garage.
Same problem here in Florida with heat, sun and air conditioned garage.

Unfortunately all Astons have the exact same wrinkling problem on the c-pillar area, even virtually new cars. It does tend to detract from the looks when the top is up. Poor design IMO. I had several Jag XJS convertibles and the tops never looked wrinkled at any spot, even after 20 years.
