Though first gen Vantage glove box latch, the part that attaches to cover, appears well made and robust, it is not. The plastic that secures the fastener become brittle overtime and breaks. It may not be a good idea to slam it shut, an old american custom.

It happens to be an old Canadian custom, too - they can be hard to break (bad pun, I know).

Thanks for the warning!

Do yo have a picture of the part that breaks? Curious how hard it would be to make a replacement.

I have a friend that had a DB9. The passenger was resting her knee against the glove box door. Somehow she pressed the release button and it jammed the lock and they could never open the glove box again.

The screws go into pillars the are injection mold with a nut in place. the pillars are inadequate with the type of plastic being used.

Thanks - that clears it up. Funny enough, one of the pillars on my car is broken as well....

Does the latch section itself every break? Or just the pillars which look to be part of the glovebox door structure? The latch section looks to be straightforward to make from aluminum, but the pillars would be a real pain to try and remake.
Matt

edit: Never mind, the striker is available from Scuderia for 16$. (4G43-C06157-AD). The underlying structure is part of the glovebox assembly, which is a bit more expensive

I had the same thing happen to me on my 06 V8V. I was replacing the cabin filter at the time and notice it was loose. I happen to take a picture before I used epoxy to glue the metal fasteners to the door. You can see where the plastic has crumbled away.
