Squeaky Brakes - CCB

New owner of a 2012 Virage Volante with Carbon Cermanics with 32k miles. Car is beautiful but it hasn’t been the best experience of ownership so far.

When I first got the car the brakes weren’t squeaking at low sped spots, a few days later I started to notice it when coming to a stop. It continued to get louder and more noticeable.

Called the dealership and told them about the issue. They said they would re bed the pads and rotors (I guess). I asked how they did it and the response was, “we take the car up to 130mph and slam on the breaks”... I laughed thinking it was a joke but found out it wasn’t after doing more research.

Picked the car up in Tuesday this week after that service, new tires, repaired 2 curb rashes wheels, new serpentine belt, air filters, diff oil change, and a few other things.

Drove the car on Tuesday afternoon and no squeaks, drove it again today and noticed the squeal is back on my way home from work. High pitch note and very noticeable when coming to a stop.

Hate to have to take it back to see if they can fix it.

I do put slight pressure on the brake when coming to a stop so it’s not as abrupt.

Any advice on how to fix this?

thank you!!!

Totally normal with CCBs. Doesn't matter which car manufacturer it is.

I can’t accept that as an answer. Porsche ccb’s don’t squeak.

are there any owners here with CCB’s that don’t have squeaky issues?

It's not April 1 is it?

Brake squeal is universal across manufacturers and brake designs (floating vs fixed callipers, cast iron vs CCM etc.) and is a common complaint.

A quick use of the search function will show that this topic has been covered before on this forum, specifically for AM CCMs. You can also try searching on Pistonheads. Assuming you have eliminated any physical issue with the brake components themselves, regular, hard use tends to mitigate or eliminate the squeal. You may also wish to check out info on proper bedding in of CCM brakes and proper care during and immediately after washing, also covered on 6speed and Pistonheads.

Squealing should not be normal, not everybody does experience this. We are specialized in Carbon Ceramic disc refurbishment and I can share with you some experiences with our customers about why this starts:

- Changing the pads

- Broken screws (between the disc and the hat)

- Twisted discs (in this case more vibration)

- Worn-out discs

- Manufacturer poor density of the disc

- Poor attachment on the hub

- The tile/disc combination is also important.

can't help directly with carbon rotor brakes, but...i stopped the squealing on my non-CCM vantage brakes by doing TWO things. 1) new pads that are NOT, repeat NOT, performance pads. just very inexpensive pads that cost about four times less than performance pads or aston oem pads. and 2) when installing them i added a bit of copper based grease to the part of the pad that comes in contact with the caliper pistons.

Most carbon ceramic breaks will squeal. They were designed for racing, not for daily driving. Here's a video from a good friend of mine that thoroughly explains why it happens and how to fix it.

I have seen the video and this guy knows what he is talking about. I have never heard how to stop squealing, and now I have learnt something new. I will share this with my co-workers. so thank you very much!
About Carboteq - he is on point! we are also using this device and we measure each disc before and after refurbishment/upgrade. This is the only and best way way to make sure if the process works.
also has happened that the squealing stopped when customer was using his refurbished disc.

He definitely knows his stuff. He's the guy the dealers call when they can't fix an issue.

I have left him a comment on youtube to try our refurbished discs, so everybody will get an independent opinion on our service. If there is anyone else you could recommend, please let me know.

+1
I also have steel brakes on my Vantage and they were very squealy when I first got the car (1 year old and ~4000 miles) I replaced the pads with cheap Posiquiet pads and it made a 90% reduction in squeal. It will still squeal a bit on first application of the brakes on a cool day but otherwise is quite civilized now.

And count me as one of the folks not in the "it's normal, just get used to it camp" - while I can't offer any specific suggestions on the CCM Aston brakes, I have 2 Porsches with PCCB (a GT3 and C2S) and both are very quiet. I do not tolerate squeaking/squealing brakes - it's a bit of a dark art and there are lot of potential solutions (pad compound changes, anti-squeal shims, anti-squeal pastes of various formulations, re-bedding, etc...) but IMO worth chasing down.

Hi I have written to your friend to test ours, but no replies. Can you maybe ask him, if he is interested?
