Brakleen on Painted Calipers - Will it Ruin Them?

Hey everyone, I'm seeing some info suggesting to clean all brake components with Brakleen, however my calipers are painted and Brakleen is supposed to corrode paint. Is it safe to use on painted calipers for some reason?

Do not use brekkleen on painted calipers. It will eat the clear coat paint off them. Or at the least make the clear coat look milky.

1. Clean with Dawn liquid with a brush as best you can. (you could also use P21s Wheel cleaner if you wanted)
2. Ceramic Coat them; that way nothing else will stick and you will be able to use a soft brush and car soap from there on out.

enjoy at that point. Anything else is wasting your time.

Thanks! About a month ago I popped the wheels off and cleaned the calipers really well with simple green, then put some of that Insanity on that you recommended. The faces of the calipers clean up very easily now with just car soap and water. I'll make sure to keep to that when the full brake job is required in a year or two and forego the Brakleen.

Yes honestly I have never used that stuff when changing pads and rotors. I do clean with a degreaser like Purple Power; BUT..... those too can do the same as the Brakekleen does. You have to be really careful and also rinse well and never let that stuff sit. I use a toothbrush when doing it.

But, caliper wise from now on with the Insanity on it you will never have to use anything harsh on where you put that coating.
