Fuel Filler Door

Hello! I'm a relatively new owner of a 2007 V8 Vantage. I've been a lurker on this forum before I purchased her and now afterwards. The information you all are sharing has been extremely helpful.

Today, I decided to tackle once and for all an issue I've been having with the fuel filler door. It doesn't get stuck (so many seem to have this issue), rather it rubs the inside of the opening nearest the hinge. I took a look at RedPants YouTube video about realigning the door, but was unsuccessful. Looking closely at the hinge arm, I did notice what appeared be a little white scratch but didn't think anything of it. So I figured, it's just a little bent, I'll just bend it a little teeny bit the other way. And now, of course, it has completely broken off. The little white scratch turned out to be a crack in the cast aluminum.

I've found places online where I can order a new hinge arm. The issue is the current arm is adhered to the fuel door panel with what I'm assuming his permanent adhesive. Has anyone successfully separated their fuel filler door from its hinge arm?

Thanks,

i want to say, "heat to 10,000 degrees Fahrenheit and she'll come right off". but i won't...

BTW, don't feel too bad. i just purchased a cayman and within 24 hours of ownership, while changing the windshield wipers, i let the wiper arm (sans wiper blade) snap back down breaking the windshield.

Thanks for the shared misery . At this point, I'll just tell people it's an exposed fuel filler "you know, for racing".
