Hi All

My new to me 2009 DBS has really poor grip, admittedly its colder weather and wet roads but I have to take it so steady, especially when pulling away from a stop, otherwise the tyres break free. No confidence in the handling at all really.

Tyres are P Zero’s and 2015 year so maybe they’ve gone off, but is this normal for a DBS, should I switch to a different tyres, Michelin PS4S for example?

100% switch to new tires, high performance summer tires are rocks after 2 years. At 6 your definitely on borrowed time.

 

Oh ok thanks. Did wonder but wanted to ask, my cars have been 4 wheel drive for so many years I wasnt sure if that was the influencing the feeling, but there really is a lack of confidence to get the power down especially when roads are wet.

 

I have very similar experience with my 09 DBS manual. Launch at pull power are scary, rear end feels like it’s slipping away on the side. My last RWD car was a “new” 1986 mustang GT, I’ve been on on AWD since. Tires are Michelin pilot 4S and not as old as yours. I’m a bit puzzled by this, I’m going to check the stability control thing when I get the car back on the road.

 

I thought the PS4S rubber would make the difference but I guess not if you have those fitted and still no traction.

Ive never experienced a lack of traction like this when going back around 10 years or so and owning 911’s, SL55 AMG, CL55 AMG, M3’s etc all 2wd but drove beautifully in all conditions.

Cant pull away normally in the DBS, it breaks traction and spins the wheels.

 

I have MPS4Ss on my 911, Cayman R and Maserati QP5 Sport GTS. They are an excellent high performance summer tire, but I don't drive on them much below 40 degrees F. They are not an all season tire. I store my 911 and CR during the winter, and switch to dedicated snow tires on the QP5 for the Chicago winter typically by mid-November. The MPS4Ss come back into usage in April. P Zeros are a summer high performance tire. I would not expect their performance in cold or snow to be good; quite the opposite, actually.

They will be softer..... better ride, better cornering, better grip, more driver confidence and more safe all around!

 

Does it spin one wheel or both? I've heard that the LSD in these cars don't lock up very quickly. Thus making it more "entertaining", but not faster.

 

Both wheels. I think Im right in saying the Auto mode selects 1st gear when the car comes to a stop, which probably contributes to the wheel spin.
