downeaster1 is infamous around these parts

Is there any way to not manipulate the factory radio while carplay is being used? It looks really annoying. If not, are there other systems that don't do that?

Yes, you have to remember to back out of the menu before you start manipulating CarPlay. Otherwise you inadvertently change a lot of settings.
