My12 Rapide Cheap Coil Question

Yes, we should use OEM coils. I totally get it - its a big job, dont put in cheap parts or you will do it twice.

However, if I were to roll the dice, just wondering if anyone has seen, tried, or heard reviews on these specific ones on Amazon. I have a misfire on one cylinder. Doing all plugs (NGK ITR6F-13) and trying to decide if I want to do one AM OEM Coil, all 12 AM OEM coils ($$$), or roll the dice with this set. I am also VERY open to any referrals on alternate coils such as the MSD ones (I cannot seem to confirm a direct match; there is a posting here for a set for $500 but seems to be fitment issue).

Seller is called DBCOIL and description is "Set of 12 Ignition Coil Pack For Aston Martin DB9 Rapide S CE Vanquish Virage Zagato Vantage Volante AMR Vulcan Lagonda Taraf AM11 AM16 AM29 AM4R9 V12 6.0L 2010- OEM 8G43-12A366-AA 4G43-12A366-AA (12)"

Amazon Amazon

Thanks in advance.

Dan

There's some good feedback on the DMCoil in other forums so I wouldn't hesitate.

The MSD coils I used are the square top for the later engine variations and won't fit your car if you have the round ones.

This reply is probably too late to be helpful, I have installed the Amazon coils DMCOIL $350 and the NGK plugs part # ITR6F-13 $12.76 each, thus far my 2011 DB9 with 24 k on the clock has been running great no missfire's and notable quicker starting.
Definately install 12 coils etc, I also sent my fuel injectors to Injector repair LLC on the east coast $17 each for Ultrasonic cleaning and new O rings.

never too late! And huge thanks for the reply. Great to hear they are running strong. I have not made any changes yet. The more I drive it the better it seems to run. Haven’t had any service lights appear in a while now. But I do have all parts less the coils on hand and ready to go.

Wink DMCoil onboard too!

Hello all,

I installed DMCoil 3-pin coil packs and NGK Spark Plugs SITR7A11G (94949) on my 06/2008 470bhp DB9 beginning of August 2024. So far so good and runs silky smooth, even with one of my injectors being 10-15% down (discovered during ultrasonic cleaning – will need to replace).

The coil packs are very sturdy and good quality. Having the OEM ones out of the car now, I can see the DMCoil ones are very well made clearly. Proceed with mind at peace!

Btw if anybody wants 11 good OEM coil packs with 37k miles on them and equivalent original spark plugs, please give me a shout. Can post from the UK or from Greece and we can work out a price.

Please read my above message. DMCOIL seem to be making such a killing with these that they updated them to red-black and imprinted their brand on them. I have the old black ones without logo, they are excellent!

Those red ones are not the same than the black ones , internal coil is upgraded for " performance" as the vendor said , but i don't want to break the engine .... that's why i hope someone can provide feed back on those red ones

Can you send a direct link for the red ones? I have never seen them before on any marketplace.

Apologies for the late reply. I am not sure what they mean by "performance" but they could have corrected some of the inherent weaknesses of the coil design. Can you please email DMCoil and ask them to compare the red ones vs the ones here?

https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005001523231768.html?spm=a2g0o.productlist.main.1 .acf6sXVjsXVjvJ&algo_pvid=fda7ae93-a31b-4d17-869e-19e808914577&algo_exp_id=fda7ae93-a31b-4d17-869e-19e808914577-0&pdp_npi=4%40dis%21EUR%21249.99%21249.99%21%21%21 253.08%21253.08%21%40211b61a417349081575005256ea2d 5%2112000016462229431%21sea%21GR%212808392563%21X& curPageLogUid=kibYQtK2rHrk&utparam-url=scene%3Asearch%7Cquery_from%3A

The black ones are very good and sturdy. I can post an unpacking video if you are interested. They are heavy and well made and I was very positively surprised as they do not differ from the original ones. I suspect the red ones will be even better but better for DMCoil to tell us what they did with the new design. The black ones work flawlessly though and I have heard about people who put a lot of miles on them with no problem!

The red DMCoils are 50% more expensive than the black ones by the way!
