ChuckRbts is infamous around these parts
I have been thinking of joining, hoping that the club would be a place to get info on the model I want and possible leads to cars for sale. Is this realistic?

Perhaps someone has the model you want and go for a drive in theirs?

Here or Pistonheads is probably the best place to get info. If you don't have the Gayden era bible and that covers the range you're looking at it's invaluable. Finding cars for sale, if you're in the club you're probably not selling, you find them on BAT or any of the retail listing sites like cars.com.

Completely agree with your point here about the club needing to get much more involved. They are also relatively UK-centric I would say.

I too am a dual PCA / AMOC member and I think it's important to consider the relative scarcity of our cars overall vs Porsche. I think I had read somewhere that there were roughly ten 911s on the road for every Aston - and that's just 911s! I'm generalizing a bit, but I also think for many, an Aston is more of a car for the right occasion whereas a Porsche is a bit more usable overall as a swiss arm knife type of sports car.

I've been attempting to grow the AMOC presence in Western Canada, and have found owners to be generally receptive to connecting with other owners via the club - as long as there are functions to attend and some means to communicate with the other members. We do have a couple fun things planned this year, including a fall overnight trip into the Canadian Rockies. A bit of an overall more modern approach and some effort in putting events together seems to yield results. I suppose time will tell!

I think the number was closer to 100 911's for every Vantage [which was the highest selling AM in it's history]

Yes! I have been an active member of the NE chapter for the past few years while searching for my car. GET INVOLVED! Car clubs are dying. Create the club you want to see. Even if that means planning (yawn) movie nights.
