There are a number of companies and YouTube sites that test oil filters. If you are really serious about wanting an alternative to the Aston oil filter, then I suggest you do some research. Try to duplicate the Aston's filtration material and size, bypass valve construction and relief spring, gasket material, anti-drain back valve, cannister construction etc.
I suspect that a number of oil filters will compare favorably. Then make your decision.

Appreciate that Embdenb but honestly my aptitude for such things is fairly modest. For the 12 bucks I'd save, I'd rather investigate other things. I DO appreciate your insights as always. Is FLA still hot where you are?

I was tempted to use an alternative filter such as a WIX or K&N but decided to go with the ridiculously priced AM filter. Why? As mentioned above, there was an extensive discussion about this topic and the conclusion was there is no equivalent filter due to the internal back pressure valve that was not the same in the these alternative filters. FWIW, the AM filter is made in France not in China. Any shop or dealer will slap whatever filter they have on there and tell you its ok. I do my own oil changes using the alternative oil drain plugs and gaskets and spend money on the right filter and oil and it comes out to less than $150. I wouldn't put a fram oil filter on any car much less one of these cars. To each his own, but i wouldn't mess around with cheap oil filters, this is where pay to play comes in. My 2 cents.

Totaly agree with mrtzmd on that one and at $44k for a short block that is if you can find one, very cheap investment is an OEM oil filter

hmmm...for $44k you can buy a short block and the rest of the car with it, fully sorted...don't want to pick a fight, but maybe that just a bit alarmist?

If you were a long enough member you would have come across the story of someone who lived it... Yes you can buy a entire car for probably less but it won't be a new engine from factory
