Or am I just too old (You Darn Kids get off my lawn!)
I recently purchased a 2006 Vantage (been my dream car for decades) Very happy with it. It make amazing sounds, unlimited pops and bangs on deceleration. It is really fun however a little extreme for just driving around. I feel like the police really want to ticket me.
It does have Velocity AP V8 Vantage 200 cell cats (passed CA smog no problem)
I thought maybe putting fuse 22 back in might improve it but no luck. Before I owned the car someone actually had it straight piped. I can not imagine how loud it was.
I am guessing it has the secondary cats removed? Could it also have a tune that makes it pop so much or is this normal? Thoughts?
You could install an x-pipe, that will quiet it down quite a bit. I don't believe 2006 has secondary cats. The engine may have a tune on it along with the 200 cell cats.
I just found a little more information why fuse 22 did nothing, on one side the linkage is broken to the flap, on the other side the vacuum line was disconnected.
If you passed CA emissions, you don't have a tune. Plug in OBD II matches the manufacturer file to verify correct OEM calibration. 4.3 engine with high flow cats and disabled vacuum at the rear is pretty aggressive. Fix the leak and enjoy the below 4k rpm difference.

You have eliminated some of the pieces in the exhaust system that provide additional silencing. Those modifications make the car louder, which is what the other owner wanted. Go talk to someone at your local exhaust shop.
On my 2011 V8 vantage, I thought it did not have enough sound. My buddy found a slightly used Quicksilver Exhaust for $995 from an Aston Martin dealer that originally installed the exhaust and after a test drive the owner did not like the sound and had it immediately removed! I would have assumed that it was too loud - for me great!!! After installing I drive the car - it seems that I bought the 'Touring Exhaust' which is quiet. I added the Velocity AP 2nd CAT delete and now it sounds OK - still not quite loud enough but more to my liking.
