Top flakes

Hello everyone,

So today I was tinkering on the damaged DB9 (knowned as "kick in the butt"), around the volante roof.

I folded it down manually for the first time and was happy to get an unobstructed movement.

I intend to transfer it to my submarine car (a DB9 that went for a swim named Ondine), as the material and especially the inner liner is very much to my liking. A dark charcoal ot anthracite color.

There is one thing that puzzles me as I fond this also on Ondine. There is a flaking gooye ( how would you spell that?) substance brownish in color comming out of the roof between the mohair outer material and the inner liner.

is it important, does it provide waterproofing? Is it just there for theological reasons? Can anyone let me know how I should address this "thing"?

Thanks,

Francis

momo stallion is infamous around these parts
I'm not certain about the volante but in the coupe the Alcantara headliner attaches to it's rigid backing using an adhesive. When the adhesive fails the alcantara material starts to sag and fall away from its backer. During the messy repair, the failed adhesive is that orange dusty layer.

redpants has a headliner repair vid on youtube.

Hello Momo,

Yes, maybe it's the same but if you look on my pictures, it's coming apart in gooy flakes, not a dusty material.
