Front License plate requirement in Florida

Not sure this is the correct forum sub-category:
New bill being proposed in Florida would require all vehicles to have a front license plates.

Rhode Island has had the same requirement for as long as I can remember.
Thank God it is largely ignored by our police.
Thanks,
JH

Illinois has the front plate requirement also. Almost every year someone introduces legislation to eliminate the front plant law. And every time the State Police push back and the front plate law remains in effect.
I don’t have mine on my Vantage and a friend of mine places his front plate in the front window. The cops always say it is to help identify a car but I think the real reason is th in Illinois the toll roads are set up to read the front plate if you bypass the toll booth.
I keep mine in the trunk with everything needed to attach the it if the cop makes a big deal out of it. I also say aI was working on the front of the car and forgot to put it back on. In Illinois if you are issued a ticket for no front plate you can take it to court and the ticket will be dropped if you attach the front plate.

Its ridiculous. Its 2025, if they want to identify cars, build into the car an RFID that can be read at a distance, at night, in bad weather, no matter what angle you view the car from. A large number of people already have an EZ-Pass, this would just be a more generic version. So if they really cared about id'ing cars, they would be doing this.

How you can tell these people that work for the state are not too smart is that they haven't done something simple would benefit the state: Give people the option to pay extra on their registration to not need a front plate. Then the state gets extra money and spends less on making and disposing of plates. Win-Win. Duh!

I always leave the temp sticker on the windshield from new purchase/lease for a visual it's a new purchase. If you get pulled for just the front plate in any state it's definitely because the officer is a ******.

Never would have thought this would build steam in FL.

I'd like to build a campaign in my state (MA) to remove the front plate. There is no valid reason to have one in 2025 and it diminishes the values of our cars.

There is no need to ever attach a front plate in Massachusetts. My current Aston, Ferrari, Porsche and BMW have never had front plates, nor have any of my prior cars. All you need to do is go to the RMV site, order a new front plate for your car, check one of the two boxes (either lost or damaged) for the reason, pay the $10 charge for the new plate and presto: you get an official missing plate permit to print out for use until the new plate arrives (usually a few months later). However, the permit does not expire until your current registration expires, so you can use the same permit every year for your new inspection sticker (they just take a photo of the permit) and to show cops if you ever get stopped. Then rinse and repeat after you renew your registration. The RMV has no clue that you keep requesting new front plates for the same car. I've been doing this for all of my Massachusetts cars for 25 years...works like a charm.

No need to worry…the front plate requirement has now been dropped from Florida Senate Bill 92 (2025).

THANKS, for the info! FL usually does come to its senses...most of the time.

With 20M residents (and maybe 20M+ cars registered), it would be a colossal exercise to get front plates on all of them.....and cost.

F'ing genius. I've been running without a front plate on my cars for over 20yrs. I use double sided tape to attach for inspection sticker, then throw back in trunk after I leave. The only real time it bit me was in Boston. I got a parking ticket for missing front plate. Ridiculous .
