Question Aston Martin F1 No More?

Looks like Aston Martin has sold its minority share of the F1 team. The articles are little confusing. Does that mean a name change is eminent?

Based on the second article sounds like they're selling their stake but will remain on as a sponsor? If that's the case then it sounds like the Aston Martin name would remain in F1.

Interesting news considering everything Stroll has done to build up the team, especially right after securing Newey. Can't just be due to the tariffs, something like this would have had to be in the works for much longer, although I'm sure that's not helping the situation. If the sale does happen I'd think the only certainty is that Lance might be out of a job. Possibly clearing the way for a Max/Fernando lineup in 2026?

I read an MSN article that says the name will remain Aston Martin, FWIW.

Sometimes I wonder if they're dragging down the stock price to buy it all? It's under $1 a share.

Max and Fernando line up would be amazing. Should help on car sales too. Lance can go to their sports car / prototype racing.

A Max/Fernando/Newey lineup combined with the 2026 regs change would have to produce something exciting for us. It would certainly help the car sales as well. That's why Stroll selling the stake in the team seems off - a presence in F1 seems to be critical to his stated goal of making AM the "Ferrari of the UK". Although I guess a strong sponsorship and branding on the car would still more or less work the same way.

I don't think it has sold yet its shares yet, AMR GP? Everywhere I am reading it otherwise says it's a proposal. And besides...how long is £125m going to last for AML? Couple of weeks?

This is a good article on it. Not great days at Aston Martin. Reduction in Force has happened :-(

I think Lawrence just felt so bad about having to fire his son at the end of the year that he preferred to just sell the team.

That's funny. So far Lance is in the points lead on the team.

Yeah he's performed well so far this year, I do think he's been consistently over-hated just due to his dad and the situation. But I don't think there are any illusions that he'd most likely be moving on if Stroll/Aston sell their stake in the team. Especially if Max actually is a possibility for them, although I think they'd bring on someone new regardless.

Sainz would've been a good replacement (despite his Williams performance so far), but would've been too Spanish between Alonso, Sainz, and De la Rosa. I think there is only one AM dealership in Spain.

Yeah I agree about Lance, he's respectable and certainly not as bad as many characters that have gotten seats because of their big $ backing.

Pretty sure Stroll still controls the F1 team personally, and Aston Martin (the car company also controlled by Stroll) sold its minority stake in the F1 team. Stroll would never sell control of the F1 team. Otherwise his son would lose his seat. The interesting talk today was that Max could join the AM F1 team, and that Alonso would be the one losing the seat.
