One thing to keep in mind is that racing oil filters have a different design priority then street car oil filters.
Race filters are a trade off between filtering and robbing horse power, with the priority being flow (not as much HP robbing)
Race car engines are rebuilt anywhere from once a season to every race so particle filtration is not the priority.

Why do you think they're counterfeit?

Mark Gronsbell is infamous around these parts
We all like to save money but I fail to see the wisdom in saving a minimal amount of money and putting a very expensive engine at risk.

well I dobut Aston Martin makes their own oil filter so if we can figure out who makes it and source it from same manufacturer nothing bad in saving some money

luckily am oil filter is only $ 50-70 but my gallardo when I checked originally many years ago Lambo was asking like 80-100 same exact filter Audi was selling for say 50 and VW was selling v it for 40 , turns out they are made by malhle and FCs euro was selling mahle filter for $ 10 with life time replacement warranty so have been using those with no problems

I had bought 6 filter from uk dealer with my other orders and I have one left , now scuderia orders have more shipping , tax and tariffs so was looking for alternatives

I agree with that idea but not with buying Ebay Chinese potential fakes of questionable quality.

Hence the question

I am surprised that they go through trouble of making fakes for such a small market

Thing is - the fake Chinese unit on Amazon is $55. The most expensive filter listed.

They probably take a $3 generic white filter, stencil some green Aston looking wings on the side, shrink wrap it. Probably less than $5 in the whole thing. In China, that's a lot of profit and a large market is not needed.

On Logos, patents and copyrights, most countries honor these. China does not. If you wanted to create a t-shirt in the US or UK with the Aston Martin wings and name (their copyrighted logo) and sell it, you would need to pay AM a royalty fee for using the logo. When you see these Chinese products on Ebay and Amazon, the entire logo is not shown or the name Aston Martin is blurred out. These are only meant to trick the "buyer" into thinking they are buying genuine because they saw part of a logo they recognized.

Frankly, I am surprised Amazon (a US based retailer) allows a product like this for sale on their site.

Filter is made by Donaldson. They have manufacturing facilities in China, it is possible these are production overruns being sold on the gray market. I would cut one of each apart before deciding fake vs real.

In reality Amazon offering so much copy and fake article is the best example of corporate violence and dilution. The biggest they are they more they dilute. It's what I said to a db12 owner complaining of a problem and comparing Aston to VW. VW is an example of big corporates and none of the car are well made.
If there was justice I will send Amazon in jail.
I hate monopole corporate cause it's exactly what they succeed doing.
I won't be surprised if 20% of products are fake and or made for Amazon as is etc....
Amazon ship fast junk products only.

You know what happened one day I was at the dentists some young kids maybe 5 years old put something inside my exhaust. Not sure if it was a ping ping ball or a kinder surprise yellow egg but after starting the car and driving 50 meters I heard some noise like something exploded twice....I stopped and restarted the car and all was fine since. It was 4 years ago. Then other like 5 years old kids broke my window. They messed it out when I arrived home it broke itself...they intent to break it ...so watch for kids cause after it's too late and if you want to know it was around a supermarket I parked safely but I runner. And upon coming back fast the kids were around throwing a metal part attached to a chain I think it was.
Don't do too many changes cause like the guy said on his video the Aston taxes may come for other reasons ..and in this world it's more and more present, surprises and vandalism.
All my xJj i had 10 were beautiful véhicules.
Last from port Marly jag who do racing. And in the US I was in the sequoia park and I used countless Jag dealer but Fresno Harron Jag know their stuff.
I was asking Lou what you did to my xj6 engine a 1995 baby blue, he said Pierre i m retired in one year .
It was running like an helicopter and had a striking noise I missed countless exit on the freeway...

I spent 6 k for rodents and vandalism ( 1500e covered by insurance only in all risk policy)that's why I avoid driving too now. Anyway it's a nice piece of exhaust you set up it looks good quality I hope it doesn't trigger anything, maybe it's even better for the catalitics who knows....but myself I must stay eom with this car they called the ring car, from nurburgring, if you want to know in 7 years I escape the mot too. Cause I live mostly in another country. I have never been asked a mot here. I owned it since 9 years.

I didn't even had problem finding a buyer from France willing to buy it without MOT but I refused his lower offer
And if it's a pro buying it I don't need the MOT. I sold a xkrv to a pro from Spain to france
As I offer to pass the MOT here but it's only valid here and I didn't have too finally, going with the buyer passing the ITV in spain so they feel better and do it a second time in his country.

Has anyone purchased one of the eBay versions and taken it apart yet? There are so many available now, and prices have dropped to around $25 (free shipping and return? wth!). I’ve compared some of the clearer photos to an OEM unit I have, and the hole spacing, stamped and notched markings look remarkably similar.

Even air filters are popping up, with printed factory look-alike part number and "made in austria".

Here is the factory AM oil filter taken apart. It was very stout, and I had a hard time getting the pleating out, heavy duty vise grips and cutting around the edge worked.
Everything in the filter that is metal is magnetic, including the screen covering the back side of the pleating.
