BCM vs CEM

Good evening,
I am looking at some DTCs that popped up last time I ran the scanner on my 2010 Rapide, and many of them seem to point towards a faulty BCM (according to ChatGPT )
A couple of questions:
- Are the BCM and CEM the same part? I can't find any mention of a BCM for a Rapide anywhere...
- Is there a way to test a supposedly faulty BCM/CEM?
- Does a new BCM/CEM have to be programmed to my VIN?
Thanks in advance for the help!

It seems there are some "CAN-bus communication issue".
Is this CAN-bus a harness? What is it exactly?

You have two diagnostic ports under the dashboard (I assume?)? One is engine, the other is body if so. In my 06 and 07 vantages, neither allowed the diagnostics computer to read the BCM, only the ECM would communicate. I don't know why. It comes up with the same statement about communications failure. Dealer only maybe? The BCM allows you to toggle stuff like power mirrors on and off and similar.

CAN-bus is the "Controller Area Network" that lets the sensors 'talk' to each other and the ECM/BCM. It basically allows a manufacturer to have less physical wiring harness for the electronic tasks at hand and prioritizes systems by importance (as I understand it). to keep things running.

Thank you.
So is the CAN-bus a physical harness that could get pinched or corroded? Or is it just a communication protocol?

My understanding is that it is both. I guess it could get corroded or pinched as a smaller than otherwise wiring harness?
