Great car. I haven't had any significant problems with mine, just little things like glovebox, Bose radio, etc...all covered under warranty. It is definitely not slow, and has so much low end torque that I can just leave it in 4th gear most of the time if I want. Exhaust note from the V8 is great, even better if you go aftermarket. Fuel mileage SUCKS. I get about 14 mpg city, can't get 20 on highway. Recaro seats are amazing, especially if you go for the alcantara...grips your *** like a ****, warm in the winter, cool in the summer. For winter, quattro rules. You won't be disappointed.

I usually flip my cars after 2-3 years. My S4 is just over 4 years old now and I still have it. That has got to tell you something.

I think that the S4's are awesome

I had one before trading it in on my 997C2S. The only negative is the back seats are very tight and only good for small children.

I have an Allroad for the days that the C2S needs to stay inside and for taking the little ones out in.

Audi makes a very good car, so if the S4 is for you I would say go for it.

My wife has the itch for a 996 vert and may be selling her 2004 S4... very very clean car with lots of good options. Silver metallic outside with two tone silver/black alcantara interior withe aluminum trim.. Stock except for Milltek exhaust... Have a set of blizzaks mounted on Fliks that could be included.. Car is CPO until 100K and just came off factory warranty (has 42K miles). Oh and it is a Tip (it's the wife's after all). PM if any interest... Reasonable on price but not giving it away either. Thinking high 20's ????

I personally would keep it, I love this car but wife wants a convert and drools over my 996 so she wants to flip.

Its an awesome car and is really quick! Is your M3 Stock?? Is so a stock manual S4 is a little bit (i mean a little bit) quicker. I think the S4 is great and would highly recommend it. Have you also looked at the RS6? You can pick one up for 36k and has over 550HP with a chip/exhaust.

Never thought about the RS6 but majority of them are automatic. I'm looking to see if I can test drive an S4 this week.

I have given the B5 some thought but I'm scared of blowing damn turbos, and it looks outdated and doesn't sound nothing like the B6.

I suppose 100% is technically a majority.

I love my S4, it is very quick but you have to really push he engine, much like any //M car to really feel the power. Peak power is not made until 7,000 RPM's. It is a PIG with gas. It might be the wa i drive but i get about 13 in the city and 18 highway (cruising a roughly 85 to 90.

The Recaros are great, very comfortable and I have taken many road trips in my S4. The roads iced over here today and Quattro had not problems at all, even on sticky summer tires.

Go for the S4, it is a great car, this is coming from a former BMW and //M owner.

I'm not sure what kind of S4 you have, but mine makes peak Tq at about 3000 rpm's. If your S4 is a V8 and it's making peak power at 7000 rpm's there's something seriously wrong...

Also, if you're getting no better than 18mpg on the highway there's something wrong. Most people can average 20+ during highway driving. In fact last year on my way to Florida I averaged 24 mpg and that was with some pretty long stretched of 90+ sprints.

24mpg? On the freeway the best I've ever gotten according to the computer is 20.1 on a trip to Portland. Not going super fast either.

hmmm...is your car stock? I'm running downpipes, a full exhaust, and the APR 93 oct chip. People have typicall found that gas mileage increases with some of these mods.

While peak torque is made at 3,000, Peak HP is not made untill 7,000 for manuals and 6,800 for tip car.

And as we all know Tq is what actually propels the car forward. Hp is just what keeps it moving. Any "feeling" of acceleration or power your car has is the result of Tq.

test drove one a while back,
car is really nice for dd. (in my perspective)
power is there its just that car feels a bit heavy.
shifter required a bit of longer throw compared to other cars ive driven (s2k etc)
but it was smooth and precise at least.
and the v8 sound is not the one you normally get in sti or evo.
if i had enough money to pay for gas (which my parents pay for my current car)
i'd definitely get one for a year or two.

Pretty much stock. Just a catback. I didn't buy the car for gas mileage

My S4 has not had any problems and I'm at 47k. Great car, but I'm never in the snow.
