My father is in love with the car, but not the insane markup, are these cars available at or around MSRP? Any help is appreciated.

^ I think it's going to be pretty tough to get one of these given the insane waiting lists, and even moreso at MSRP. Not sure what used ones will starting selling for at this point. Good luck to your dad!

Yes, you can get them at MSRP, but you have to find a dealer that doesn't mark up their cars, and one that also has an order slot available, and then you have to wait... like two years.

The 4.2 is in short supply which is one of the reasons for a huge wait. As far as I know, even with paying markup, people are still being told there will be 10+ month wait for the car.

My local dealership quoted up to 3 years and they do not mark the cars up.

Audi has sold out the production run for 2 years. We as a dealer ship bought a pre-owned R8 from a customer for 15k over MSRP and it was sold in two days. You can find R8's for sale but they probably will have a Mark Up.

If you want one now, it is pretty much impossible. I've tried to buy 4 in the past week ad the mark up has ranged anywhere from 20 - 70k over. I negotiated on an east coast car and will be delivered here in Cali next week. Paid a slight premium, but nothing like the 20+ most are getting.
