Hey guys,

I'm having issues with my RS4. My OBD check lamp lit up, and my oil temperature is now stabilizing around 200 F. I'm taking the car to the dealer.

I'd like to know what your normal operating oil temperature is. I believe mine is usually around 147 F.

Also, how is your engine oil consumption going? I find I have to add oil fairly often. I have just under 20k miles on my RS4.

 

I've got 30K miles on mine. My oil will reach a certain point (a little below the add 0.5 quarts) on the dip stick then stop. I used to add oil unnecessarily but have since stopped. Most of the posters on audiworld.com (a great Audi resource) have the same experience. Since I have learned this, I've added less than 0.5 quarts in 20K miles. I change my oil pretty often (~5K miles) which helps.

Cruising oil temp is probably around 195F. In traffic or "spirited" driving it's about 225-235F. The highest I've ever seen it was 247F. That was a hot day with "spirited" driving. 200F is nothing to worry about. The OBD light is most likely due to something other than the oil temp.

I'm fairly certain the OBD light is nothing serious, as I had a friend connect the car to a portable diagnosis machine and it couldn't find anything wrong. I was just worried about the oil temp, as I usually don't look at it, but was concerned it might be abnormally high after seeing the OBD light come on.
