No it won't be a diesel. The original motor was modified and has 4 liters now instead of 4.2. The reason for this downgrade was to drive in another race class which fits the superlight car much better.

So here we go. Some more information from good old germany. race takes place next weekend and i am tensed to death! hope everything runs good and we win.

So as mentioned the motor has been downgraded to 4.0 Liters, producing 530 hp und 353 lb-ft of torque. The car is ultra lightweight, lots of parts as well as the complete front and back have been built completely new.

Raceweiht: 2,755 pounds.

Sadly the R8 had problems with the engine (they first put the motor into the car 1 week before the race because there wasn't much time) and didn't start into the race. But it will competite with all the porsche and the zakspeed viper in the vln races...

 

Semi-related note: the new Scirocco came in 1st and 2nd in their class (11th overall). I only wish they were bringing it to this side of the pond.

 

Looks deadly serious.
