A.W.E. Tuning B8 A4 Exhaust Development
A.W.E. Tuning B8 A4 Exhaust Development
Good afternoon,
A local client was kind enough to loan us their B8 A4 to use for exhaust development.
Some specs on the car: It is a 09 B8 A4 2.0T Quattro equipped with a 6-speed manual transmission and the S-Line package.
As with all new products, we did extensive data logging in stock form to ensure we have an accurate base line to work from.

Once our initial data logging was complete, the car moved to our in-house Fabrication Department.
There, the car was digitized by our engineers in preparation for prototyping. Each prototype will undergo a series of tests, both on the dyno and street, to determine if it is worthy of the A.W.E. Tuning name.
Once a production version has been decided upon, our expert fabricators will make jigs and a production run will be scheduled.
I will be updating this thread as this project progresses. Subscribe and you’re sure to learn why our exhaust systems are the industry standard.
We take great pride in the amount of research that goes into all of our products. Few companies can do this type of development and we are happy to share the results.
Please feel free to ask any questions you may have, I will do my best to answer them.

Good afternoon,
Our Engineering and Fabrication departments have been hard at work on this exciting project.
After undercarriage digitizing was complete, the stock exhaust was removed from the car to prepare for our initial prototype.
The OE exhaust system, not surprisingly, wasn’t designed with maximum performance in mind.

There are sections where the stock tubing suddenly crimps down and forms creases to create maximum chassis and road clearance, but this sort of deformation hurts exhaust flow.

Our production system will eliminate these, providing smooth gradual bends where the exhaust gases can flow naturally, while still providing ample chassis and road clearance.
Our engineers began working with the raw data to design a prototype system in CAD. This helps us greatly reduce the time and raw material waste to move from the initial design phase to a full production system.
Here is a CAD model of the first prototype to undergo testing: a single outlet, dual tip system.

This will be a direct replacement for enthusiasts not looking to replace their rear valance.
We currently have a B8 S4 rear valance assembly on the way to us so we can offer a quad tip design.
Our Director of Fabrication is currently building the prototype single outlet exhaust system. Once complete, we will perform a series of sound level and dyno testing and report back with our findings.
Meanwhile, please feel free to ask any questions that you may have about our R&D process! We’re proud to be one of the few aftermarket companies with these capabilities and try to show the public exactly what goes into our products.

Good afternoon everyone,
We’ve completed testing of our prototype B8 exhaust systems and are moving onto to final jigging before we schedule a production run.
Here are some pictures of the production exhaust systems. All systems will be available with standard Polished Silver or optional Diamond Black exhaust tips.
Single-Outlet Dual-Tip System
This will fit all sedans with the stock valance in place.
Each tip is individually adjustable, so stagger and depth into bumper can be set according to personal taste. As you can see in these pictures, with the right adjustment, slash cut tips are not required to blend into the bumper, and the straight cut gives a nice subtly aggressive edge to the visuals.

Test driving with the full system has proven to be extremely civilized, significantly more so than our B6 or B7 systems. No loudness at any rpms that could be objectionable to some people.
Dual-Outlet Quad-Tip System
Thanks to the help of a forum member, we were able to acquire a B8 S4 valance sooner then originally planned and were able to move right into Quad Tip exhaust prototyping.
This will fit all S-line cars with a B8 S4 rear valance.

Dual-Outlet Single-Tip System
This will fit all avants (S-Line and non S-Line), as well as any sedan with the avant valence in place.

And here is a dyno sheet showing wheel power. Notice that in stock form, we are seeing 193hp to the wheels on this car, which STRONGLY suggests that the engine is underrated from the factory at 211 crank hp. That would suggest only a 9% drivetrain loss for a quattro car, which is unrealistic. It is more likely that this engine is making around 230 at the crank, which would also suggest that our 7 whp gain translates to about 8-9 hp at the crank.

Also, we have found that the stock downpipe uses a straight through resonator, and there was not much power at all found replacing it. We will offer all our systems with and without downpipe as our downpipe affects sound volume more than anything. Pricing will be announced by week's end.

Sorry for taking so long to get these edited down and up on our site. We've been slammed with work.
Here is our system with our downpipe fitted (full cat back system):
A.W.E. Tuning Cat Back
And here is our system with the STOCK downpipe fitted (partial downpipe back system):
A.W.E. Tuning Downpipe Back
All three tip version systems sound the same from the outside. The only difference from the outside is if our downpipe is in place or not.
However, the quad tip version does get a tad loud inside the car at some rpms with our downpipe in place.
We have determined that due to the free flow nature of the stock downpipe, there is no real power to be gained with an aftermarket one. It is mainly a sound difference. We will offer the optional addition of a downpipe to all the systems.
Thanks for your patience while we wrap up this project.
Pricing coming in the next day or so.
