Audi = carbon buildup?!?

I was all ready to make a purchase of a new 09 Audi A4 when I came across some information about Audi's new engines. Seems that there have been issues with the new direct inject engines and carbon buildup on the valves. I don't want to spend money only to be burdened with warranty issues. Does any one have insight in regards to this issue? Are these isolated incidents or something that Audi didn't address? Now the questions is: should I buy the 09, or buy a later model?

Other potential options are: buying a v8 S4 or a BMW 335xi. The S4 would be a lot of car for a daily driver and not as good gas milage and I already have a BMW. Since BMW hasn't changed their interior in awhile I wanted to go with something different. This car would be a daily driver so I place more emphasis on comfort over handling.

Thanks

It seems like most of the 08-09 cars having these issues are 3.2 motors with the newer direct injection system. They are currently working on a permanent fix for the issue. From that stand point i don't think i would be worried about extensive warrany issues. Haven't heard whether the 2.0 equiped cars are having similar issues.

To be clear this a by product of Direct Injection.

You CANNOT stop it.

No fuel passes the valves and the crankcase breather carries oil vapour back to the intake.,

THIS IS FOR ALL MAKES of DI cars, Audi, 997 Gen 2, Ferrari 458 etc etc

The main driver is meeting emission levels.
