For those of you who have moved from a 996 to an s5.. can you give me your thoughts about the difference between the two... i see the s5 is slightly more power but does have more weight to carry around..

Well..The 2013 S5 which is a tad bit different than previous S5s because its got a lighter supercharged V6 vs a heavier NA V8. So I'll speak about 2013 S5 vs 996. I have the Prestige package with all the bells and whistles...so luxury, comfort, fit and finish easily go to the Audi. Looks...I think the Audi has a slight edge. I love a 911...but the S5 is just sexier. Performance. Straightline...easily the S5. To me its not close. Yeah the 996 on a good day will do 0-60 in 5s, but the S5 does it in 4.6 all day long. ALso the transmission in the S5 is amazing. First DSG tat I have owned and I see why they are the future. Handling, goes to the 911. Its more nimble. Mine was dropped on PSS9 coilovers and had 19s with HUGE rubber. So it was nimble, and had tons of grip. Yet ROUGH riding. The S5 has adequately good handling with TONS of grip...more grip than the 996, but it suffers from understeer. A bigger rear sway bar and springs would help out a lot. Stock for stock handling pretty close, but I'd give the edge to the S5. My 996 was a Carrera 4 so it was AWD as well. Interior room is identical in my opinion. Useless back seats, plenty of room up front. The S5 sport seats are amazing...I want to replace my bed with a pair..but I dont think the wife would like that too much. Bottom line...drive one. I'm a tad bit older...so I dont need the rough and raw 996...it was fun, but the S5 is just a more civilized beast but still very fun to drive hard. The torque of the S5 is amazing and makes it feel faster because you get into the power band at 1800 PM. The 996 max torque is 273 ft/lb at 4250 RPM vs the S5 325 ft/lb at 2900 RPM.
