I'm about to pull the trigger on a new TTS that's 300 miles from me.
All the negotiations are by phone.

The dealer is offering me $20k for my 2010 TT with 47k miles.
The dealer says the KBB estimate for my good condition TT is very optimistic
at $25k. They're offering me the lower (fair) condition estimate on my car.

I guess my question is ,Are the KBB figures listed on their website unrealistic ?

Never did a trade-in long distance before and realize they never set eyes on my trade-in.

It may be too late for you since no one has bothered to reply yet. Have you tried Carmax or Auction Direct or - for that matter - your local Audi dealer? Go to any of them and ask for an appraisal. That will put you in the ballpark.

To answer your question though, yes, I've found that KBB numbers are typically unreliable and usually optimistic. Unless you are a buyer, in which case the seller always tells you that the KBB is way too low.

I like to look at Autotrader and see what dealers are asking for their comparable cars (not individuals - they don't know any more than we do!) and then eBay to see what cars have actually sold for (check the "completed auction" option) although that number will tend to be on the low side.
