Please Help

Please help.
While driving my Audi TT (2000) it made a sound like I had a bad blow-out but I checked and the tires were fine, and so were the belts. The car started fine but would not go into a n you gear. As it rolled onto the tow truck it made a grinding type noise. It has been getting more difficult to get into gear but unail now I had not lost the use of any of them. What do you all think it is? Again Please Help and thank you for your time.
