Audi R8 Real Pics at Introduction Party

With the successful debut of the R8 in Paris yesterday, the next logical question is when is it going to hit dealers and what's it going to cost? Auto Motor Und Sport answers the latter in a recent article on their website, stating that the 420 HP, V8 FSI-equipped model will come in at 104,400 Euros. The currency conversion puts that at about $135,500US, at today's rate, but we'd expect that figure to be closer to the $100k mark when playboys
and well-to-do recent divorcees pick up their own in the summer of 2007.
Additionally, Road & Track put their crack team of photochop gurus on a rendering of the R8 in drop-top form, which can be viewed here and is rumored to be available in early 2009.
"Fast-lane prestige is naturally given to Audi’s upcoming first real sports car, the mid-engine R8, presented at the Paris auto show. Though technically based on the Lamborghini Gallardo, the R8 comes with permanent all-wheel drive and has a longer wheelbase, offering more cabin space. Instead of the Lambo’s V-10, the R8 will use a brand-new 4.2-liter FSI V-8 with 430 bhp at the beginning of production, at a price of around $100,000. The 2-seat coupe will hit the U.S. in the summer of 2007 while an open-top, Porsche Carrera-GT-like model will follow in 2008. For 2009, Audi will install a version of the Gallardo’s V-10, punched to 5.2 liters and delivering 500 bhp. — MP"
