The C4S base is $88,400.00 and with comparable accessories more toward $100,000.00. The 911 series is a dated style (I have had several including a 996 TT "S") while the R8 is striking and stunning in its appearance. The R8 at 420 HP (0-60 @ 4.5 sec) and the C4S at 355 HP (0-60 @ 4.6 sec), advantage R8. Buyers of the R8 are not typical mod enthusiasts, rather enjoying the exclusivity of a true limited production automobile. If I wanted a Porsche, I would have no problem buying any model in virtually any color due to the mass production. The R8 however is a different issue. If you are not #1 on most dealer allocation lists, you won't get one in 2007 and many buyers won't get a car in 2008 due to the limited nature of R8 production. Buy a Porsche and sell it in one year and you are guaranteed to lose $30K. Buy the R8 and get all your money back in one year, advantage R8.
I have had the privilege of driving the R8 several times; both on the road and on the track and the C4S simply won't hang with the R8, close but no cigar! Even the Turbo will have its hands full with the R8.

its basically a rebadged gallardo. i dont think it looks nearly as nice as a 911. too busy and unoriginal (ala gallardo). this car will not hang with a turbo or GT3 at the track. hell, id be suprised if it could hang with a 997 C4S. it barely keep pace in straight line with a 997 C4S. i just cant get excited for an audi. they have been too well known for being unimpressive and overpriced, and im sure the r8 will be no exception.
also, if you think that this car in terms of price will compete with a C4S youre outta your mind. with a base price of 110K, the two nearest competitors are the 997TT as i said earlier and the 997GT3. both cars look better and will eat this car up anytime, anywhere and spit it back out.
John,
since u drove the R8 & talked to the right guy. did u ever question him why the R8 doesn't have the color center display like the RS4. just curious... or that's just a pre-production thing?
