I seriously doubt the engines need to be rebuilt at 100k miles... they're not ferrari's guys.

I don't think 50-60k is high mileage..don't understand why people think that. Assuming all service records and well kept, it will run 150k no problem..

My M3 has 64K, a lot of highway miles, it is mint, strong as ever...bulletproof...and the Porsche is supposed to be even better...

I could see my M3 going 200k miles no issues really major.

Just because it's turbo doesn't mean much..I mean gosh..look at all the soccer moms in Volvo etc...they don't know the first thing about turbo timers, cool down, turn the key and run the crap out of them..never see any cars really broke down on the road anymore these days...

I've "heard" stories of high mileage turbos both "lasting forever" and "blowing up". There really are too many variables in the equation to judge the car based on mileage alone. The car could have been owned and babied by a more "stately" individual, or it could have been hammered on it's whole life by some jacka$$. Without knowing the driver history it's really hard to call.

With turbos going for 40 and 50k whats happening with older 996 c2's and c4's seems like they should be available for 20k.

I feel the same way. My friend has an E36 M3 motor that we ripped apart recently, it had 190,000 miles on it. All bearings and seals were still in great shape, the cylinder walls looked awesome. The motor is going to be bored out and run high compression and all now, but I'd never seen a motor with that kinda mileage look so great!

that would make a great foundation for a track car.

no reason to be afraid of a properly maintained high mileage car.

There are a few under $45k. Porsche made too many 996TT's.
