Anyone in line for new GT2?

I know this is probably a stupid question, but still new to the Porsche community! Just checking what the new GT2 will be going for? $ over sticker? May have an opportunity to be first, taking someone elses spot! Thanks in advance for comments!

There is a White on Black one available at Pacific Porsche in Cali. MSRP of 198K

Give Gary a call (626)318-1867 or just give the dealer ship a call and ask for Gary. Great guy. He told me that they are asking 50K over, but they will let it go for 40K... anything under that will be up to your negotiation skills..

Stead Porsche in Walnut Creek has one available too. June build, I think. I think you can still build it to order.

I just took a close look at that white GT2 at Pacific Porsche yesterday too...looked sweet. They had it in the service garage and it looked like they were doing some maintenance to the front lip at the time.

Thanks guys! I have the opportunity to get one at MSRP, nothing over and just wanted to know how good the deal was. Judging by every ones response, I would say I need to jump all over it!!!!!!

If I did get and drove it for a few months, would it still bring a premium or would the resell go down 50k? I know you are thinking, if I have to ask this, I should not be considering it, but it is a large chunk of money going out. I am comfortable with diamonds and watches at these prices because that is what I do, but like I said I am new to the car stuff. But learning and loving it everyday!!!!!!!!!

GT2 go down fast after purchase. They are not an Fcar where you can buy it for MSRP drive it for 3-4K miles and sell it for more.

Slade, I've had the opportunity to own quite a few cars over the years, including the 996 GT2. My humble opinion is that a 997 GT2 will have a very short shelf life. In a year from now these things, even though they will be out of production, will be selling at their original MSRP or less.

A GT2 is a 911 and as such is a fabulous car, but it won't hold value above $200K for very long. In my opinion, the GT2 is really not an "exotic" car even though it blows the doors off of almost every exotic on the road. The GT2 appeals to a narrower -- hard core -- market than those who purchase, for example, a 430 Spider. But in the end, the GT2 is a 911, a very fast 911, but a 911 nonetheless.

If you're looking to own a car that won't depreciate, and may actually appreciate, then look to the iconic 993 Turbos or 993 Turbo "S" models. These were the last of the air cooled models. Further, the 993 was basically a hand built car with little automated assembly. Build quality was superb! 993s were pushed around by hand on dollies and they spent as much time in each work station as they needed to complete the job. (On the other hand, modern day 911s [starting with the 996] are built on a constantly moving assembly line fashioned exactly like the assembly lines at Toyota and Honda. )

In short, buy the car to enjoy and drive the snot out of it, because that's why you own a new, cutting edge, performance car. The GT2 is one of the best cars in the world but you don't buy it because you think you can make money on the car. That's a fool's game, IMO.

If you bought a C6 Z06 for msrp you coulda made money selling a few months later. I'd hope the same would be true for the GT2.

I say if you sell it within the year and under about 7,000 miles you should be able to get over sticker. Look at the 07 GT3 RS. They are still going for over original MSRP and they came out with that car again in '08. I don't see why you wouldn't make out on that car or at least break even. In the worst case scenario, if you don't get MSRP back on it, it'll cost you the same as driving a honda civic!

The GT2 is not anything like a GT3RS.

I have heard someone who has the new GT2 already stated, that while it is a very capable car, it is ultimately boring.

The GT2 will not hold a premium (imo). The dealers could be stuck with them again. Deja vu (all over again)!

Interesting observation.... there is a used one already on eBay. And a collector who I respect drove one in Europe and passed on the car because it did not compare to this RS in terms sheer fun.

I have no problem with a dealer getting FMV, but some of these dealers are so arrogant that you wish the market burns their *** big time.

I highly, highly doubt that boring is an appropriate term by any measure for this car. Maybe he enjoys the GT3 RS more, but this isn't a Toyota we're talking about. The GT2 is definitely not "boring."

Maybe not to you, but if the owner describes it that way then I think I understand his terms of reference, and I am certain the comparison was not to the RS.

However, since I am hearing things secondhand, let's wait and see what others say. I may be unfairly biased since I also passed on the GT2 (at MSRP).

It appears as if the new GT2 has been tamed, and it is no longer raw and mean (hence boring). But, comparisons are all relative.

The 2 will maintain a premium for some time ...best reviewed Porsche in a long time....at only 170 or so state side she'll be fine ...apples and oranges with the 996 2....I had the call for the the Scud about a month or so ago to spec out etc but the premium was off the charts....the 2 on the other hand was a deal in my opinion...
